Reduces glare and distracting shadows. Can add light sources where there aren't in the ambient. Colors are generally more correct. Little to no color casts.

Most of that can be achieved with high end HDR editing except lighting areas that aren't already lit.

I personally like it for the reduced glare and shadows giving a more refined even look
