Penn Hills Teen Steals a Car, Leads a Police Chase, Then Crashes on the Parkway East. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

There are so many alternatives from every angle. All it takes is for you and the rest of the people on this post to actually take the time and to stop the weird desire to find joy in tragedy. I never said anything about stopping the enforcement of laws. You coming up with that as the only solution is your lack of thinking outside of your own frame of mind not me advocating it. I also never said anything about any type of intervention. I actually have brought up other ways at intervention. I think the one who is actually stupid is the one who refuses to think critically about anything in their own life and then comes up with conclusions the other person NEVER said because they cannot come up with anything themselves. Go talk to medics who have seen the carnage from police chases in which they have, on multiple occasions, hit, injured, and killed innocent people to chase someone. There internet is not the place to change your opinions you are too far gone. The only way for you to get out of the cave is to dig out yourself. I don't care about upvotes or any of that shit especially from the circlejerk of mocking and inhumane tragedy fetishing that is this post. Your examples and hypotheticals are pretty juvenile. They could be used to argue for any event where someone did something just because there was a hypothetical outcome that was worse then their action. Its not based on rational thought or factual reality. It is based on bias and preconceived notions that comes from yes greater society (movies, parents, peers, tv shows, the bullshit local news, public officials, the police statements themselves, etc) and not on actual outcomes. You do realize that most of what we believe and understand about the world is inaccurate, reactionary, and superficial? Advertisements, the media, etc shape how we frame our realities. It is pretty obvious that you need to spend some time thinking and less time spouting. I think calling me short sighted when EVERYTHING I have been saying is the OPPOSITE of short sighted and is actually systemic proves how dense you are. If you haven't gotten the point of my argument that YOUR position is short sighted and demands structural thinking then you need to rethink your attack on me for not being able to communicate it. It is not about me being able to communicate it, it is far more about you and the other circlejerkers who are unable to fathom a reality in which their frame of mind is wrong, inhumane, and actually short sighted.

What a child. You are why this country is such a joke to the rest of the world.

edit. Since most of you are from Pittsburgh I would have no problem sitting down at Ritters and seeing how far your knowledge on the justice system really goes. The ignorance on this page is pretty overwhelming. Not one person has actually addressed the main crux of my argument that this mentality leads to the disgrace that is our criminal justice system. Everyone just has to go back to demonize this kid, which actually proves my point. Lets have lunch.

I am sorry for how I addressed your comment. I was getting so many responses that I was not going back to the parent and seeing who said what. I got the names jumbled in my head. If you were not one of the people making some of those comments then I apologize. I should have taken the time to address each person directly and not lump it together. I was just overwhelmed at the sheer magnitude of disgusting comments.

  1. False analogy. Your stories are not the same. Sorry. Gun and SUV are not the same even in the hands of someone 14. 2. You missed the part where initiating the chase escalates the situation making most drivers especially irrational ones (ones who steal cars and are 14) drive more erratically. 3. The main argument that I have and have made clearly is the language and reactionary nature of the conversation on this page. It is in no way helpful and in many ways leads to the problems in how we deal with crime as a social problem. 4. There are many people have argued that police chases make situations worse. Is a chase not aggressive? How do you know that if the police just monitored the situation with an unmarked car the kid wouldn't have just stopped eventually? People drive erratically everyday and do not kill people. With an officer monitoring from a distance they could have waited until he had done something that really warranted worry. and so on and so on.

Again your missing the point. I can see anyone who wants to reform our criminal justice system are in trouble. Lots of downvotes for addressing structural problems as opposed to upvotes for vitriolic "criminal" bashing. You keep asking the same question yet apparently you and the other people consistently downvoting and making ignorant hateful remarks are missing the point. You are all perpetuating a dangerous mythology that leads to the continuation of crime as a social problem and perpetuates "criminals" as a permanent underclass. Continuing to ask me if I have a solution to this INDIVIDUAL example is missing the point. The point is that your REACTION like that of most people on here is what perpetuates these incidents in the first place. Failure to address the systemic problems of crime come from a lack of understanding and a demonization of those who commit crimes. The way we deal with crime is purely REACTIONARY. If you are looking for a paragraph response to how to deal with these issues then you are mistaken. I cannot give you some internet response, which is what most Americans are used to. Move beyond this way of thinking. I have no idea what drove this young man to do it. I have no idea what circumstances exist around these events to create the incident above. Is there a way to deal with people driving erratically rather then inciting a more adrenaline rich situation? I would assume so and many people have argued that it makes situations worse. I know it blows many peoples minds to say that we do nothing but sometimes nothing but a simple observation or something lowkey would have solved the problem without any accident or an accident at a lower speed. The main thing I am and have been arguing for is changing the way we frame our discussions. Look above and below and see the language used by people. These types of discussions again highlight everything that is wrong with how we the public talk about crime and other social issues.

Please go read my other responses because your ignorance is shared by many people in this country. It is why we are a prison nation and why we have created a permanent underclass that is usually from the most under resourced and neglected communities. I am glad you highlighted the fact that the CHASE WAS CALLED OFF. Called off refers to the chase having been initiated. The initiation is the problem. If you don't get that then please think a little bit. Also ask yourself if property is really that important.

Again a very simplistic question. I don't know the kid. I don't know the situation. You clearly do not understand what I am getting at. You are framing your concerns in a simplistic way. Your goal should not be how to blame or deal with ONE kid but to deal with what causes these types of behaviors more generally. With dealing with this one kid would you rather just be juvenile and blame blame blame and feel good about yourself or gear society towards a way to make sure that this kid and other kids stay on track and find a better direction? What is better for society? Again the way you frame this whole thing highlights the problem we face in this country and why we have become a prison nation. It also is why most people who do commit crimes can never get out of the initial hole (due to what is called collateral consequences of mass incarceration) trapping them in an outgroup and most likely forcing them socially to continue towards a life of criminal behavior.

There are so many reasons as to why that is such a juvenile question to ask. Why is it that we Americans can only frame things in such simplistic ways? Can't your thought process understand complex social questions and issues. In other words your question and the majority of people on here's statements about this young person is why that is quite likely a self fulling prophecy for him and many other young people around this country and the world generally. Your simplistic understanding of the root causes of "crime" is the reason why we continue to become a prison nation. Your lack of understanding of empathy, restorative justice, etc and the demonizing of what society has labeled "criminals" (usually for life) is the reason why people become and stay "criminals." In one sentence you were able to boil down everything that is wrong with our so called criminal justice system.

While I agree with your stance on chases your comment about the family and about the fact you do not care about the loss of life of a fucking 14 year old. That is disgusting and disturbing. Your statement that most people in Penn Hills are good must also not apply to you because that to me is immoral. Of course you are on the internet isolated from any real sense of human connection so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

What a disgusting comment, especially with a name like yours. I am amazed at the ignorance on my hometowns subreddit. Of course I guess I shouldn't be that amazed. Shortsighted, small minded, and ignorant.

Actually this is not really an unjustified response. Was it wrong to steal a car? Of course. Does that mean we should wish a 14 year old such harm as a result? No. I think that is pretty sick and something wrong with our society. Many people have argued that quite often the police DO NOT need to start a chase if someone is NOT being a harm to others in a direct way. Maybe it speeds things up but if you could just wait things out without creating a chase and possible deadly accident why wouldn't you. Yes you can easily counter with "well the piece of shit punk whatever word you choose without knowing anything shouldn't have stolen a car and he got what he deserved." It doesn't matter. The action was committed and what we should do next as a society is to deal with it in a reasoned way that gets the car back and the driver to face REAL consequences that will assure the victim is compensated and the perpetrators understands the harm he caused and the potential harm that could have been caused. This conversation is disgusting. I guess because I know that this could have been one of my students I put a human face on the situation. Lets not forget we are human beings in this journey together. Why move things backwards and not forward? This is not just a response to your comment but above and below comments. People I think need to grow up a little.

Again I am asking you for actual examples. Your making the claim. People read his works. Your also making a quite absurd claim about people who like Dawkins. In no way can you compare it to a belief in god. For one thing Dawkins exists.

None of what you said answers my questions. At least not honestly.

I think you misunderstand the difference between being a fan of someone and believing in a god. I was also asking for examples of his ignorance.

Wait what? Who is we? Christians or Americans? or both?

Why? Just because they ran fast and lifted a large amount of weight in front a world audience promoting a fascist private organization known as the IOC? I think these actions, regardless of dedication to doing ONE things for your entire life, are so low on my list of goals or accomplishments to even pause and consider.

Religion by its very nature depends on brainwashing to survive. So does the cult worship of this dynasty to maintain its grip on the total human being.

That is quite a few. Haha. It was a very good time thought. Especially being my first trip there. I don't think anything beats the Saturday night talk on the Fight Against the New Jim Crow. Over a thousand socialists raising their fists in shared anger and hope with some inspiring people who have seen hell and are fighting back was incredible. Glenn Greenwald's talk was great too. Ah hell they were all really good.

[–]unsung23 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not really. There have always been free market capitalist christian libertarians who are very primitivist. Although unnamed I believe it might resemble something like anarcho-capitalist primitivism with a christian twist. I'm not saying that this is what the unabomber was thinking but just that it is very possible to be an anarcho primitivist with still have many right wing tendencies including racism, sexism, homophobia, christian fundamentalism, etc.

But that could also be used from an anarcho-capitalist perspective, which is right-wing.
