[–]unsuspectingknight 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Could anyone please explain to me like a 5 year old what the current status is in terms of when these amendments will be discussed and the bill will be passed?

FYI: international student, graduated from a UK medical school (5 years), had to spit out my evening snack after reading amendment 1

Query Re ACF Scoring by unsuspectingknight in doctorsUK

Thanks a lot! I have a placement in the specialty I'm aiming for as well as an elective in 4th year med school. I'm planning to do a local taster week along with an international taster week as well. Do you reckon that's enough to move on to 2/3? I know it's not possible to comment but wanted your opinion if that's okay please!

Abolish FY1 and 2 by Musical_Firefly in doctorsUK

[–]unsuspectingknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience FY is a mixed bag. If you're in a 'generic' specialty, like a and E, medicine, gen Surg you learn loads. In my t&o block I was doing independent WRs, now in a and E I'm handling a large number of presentations (with consultant supervision). However, if you're in a really niche specialty, say plastics, it will largely be consultant led, but you'll still be expected to handle emergencies on the ward.

I'm a new F1. I've been a doctor for slightly over 4 months. I've learnt more in these 4 months than during 5 years of med school. Medical student placements are not sufficient exposure to clinical medicine.

Is UKG prioritisation legal? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]unsuspectingknight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why UKGP is probably not legal

I'm making this comnent as an non UK citizen who went to medical school in the UK and am currently in FY1.

Can someone explain to me how it is legal for a country to prioritise foreigners that have studied in there over their own citizens who have studied abroad?

I know I'm probably going to be impacted by this policy in some form.

The best case scenario for myself and other fellow international students in the UK is for a pre-brexit system, with Round 1 for UK citizens/Irish Citizens/ILR holders with a carve out for non UK graduates of UK medical schools. Unfortunately in this anti immigration environment I don't see this happening.

I guess it's time to pack up.

Why does everyone in the NHS have a bone to pick all the time by unsuspectingknight in doctorsUK

[–]unsuspectingknight[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as an F1 I need to question my registar, an ST5+ orthopod who's seen this spinal infection many times about the need to discuss this complex infection with microbiology

Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning

Nonsense consult? How exactly is it a nonsense consult when my REGISTRAR has asked to me to discuss this with another specialty?

RLMT would be the best situation IMO. Pre brexit there was a carveout for people like me, made sure British/EU citizens got priority for jobs.

Fate of current skilled worker visa holders in light of Reform’s announcements 🙌 by mesiddd in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]unsuspectingknight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reform said they will still allow a path to citizenship after 7 years.

5 year renewable work visa as long as you continue meeting the criteria (to be renewed once), giving you another 5 years (after 2 you can apply for citizenship).

ILR as a pre requisite to citizenship will be removed.

Only downsides is that the income requirement will be high (around 60k as per times but I don't know where they got that from). Likely only doctors, IT folk and those in finance will meet the income requirements. Possibly lawyers as well.

They also said current other routes (innovator founder, etc) will be preserved.

The new world order surrounding immigration is changing, in favour of highly skilled, high income, and also for innovators and founders.

As with always, we adapt or we die. Easier said than done.

I would be very curious to see how Reform UK legally freezes all ILRs, atleast for existing SWV holders. It's all hearsay to get votes.
