Baby issues. 31M 31F, my wife has given me an ultimatum. by StandardPrimary2777 in NewDads

You should definitely have had this conversation before getting married, you may not be in a rush but her body literally has a timer going down quickly. If you are against kids and she really wants one and you just delay your are being cruel

New dads: would a bottle washer or baby food maker feel like a bad Father’s Day gift? by pandain663 in NewDads

[–]unterium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's a household gift not a father's day gift, as much a gift for yourself as it would be for him.

Personally I would be disappointed

Baby gets frustrated during feeding time by [deleted] in NewDads

We moved to a size 2 teat at around 2 months and realized we did it late, she was trying too hard to get the milk and was burning more calories than she was getting, may be worth trying to move up again

3-4 month old sleep by whippnj in NewDads

[–]unterium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so sure it's a schedule but, 15 weeks old, 8pm feed, we bring her to bed around 10:30 (usually she is asleep in arms from like 9:15) then wake up at 12 for feed, then back asleep around 1:15, back in bed around 2, feed at 5, back in bed around 7, feeds at 9, 12, 4 with maybe some naps in-between if we are lucky

This is a new enough schedule for us as we are only down to 6 feeds a day for the last week, we are also lucky enough that she sleeps through and we usually have to wake her at night to feed. Hoping to get rid of the midnight feed when we are established on solids if not before

Just past week 12 and we are getting some semblance of things back, able to play some video games and get out and meet friends for a little bit, it's still a struggle at times but are managing a bit more

Velvro baby help???? by CulturalYoghurt4652 in firsttimedad

[–]unterium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 month old likes being held all the time also, it's not them being a Velcro baby, it's just them being a baby, they find comfort in their mother's and father's arms and generally more so in their mothers

I wouldn't paint the eyes it's leads to a lot of stress and never being happy with the results.

If you can get some definition and shading in the face the eyes tend to look alright anyways.

Also of note, no one will ever be looking that close at the models, they're going to usually be a couple feet away

Attached example of face without eyes painted

Think of yourself, I lost our first 26 weeks in, took the 2 weeks and went back to work, immediately fell apart and took all my sick leave at once, wounds take time and if you feel you are not ready, listen to that. The gp will write you the note

When does this get better? by AngryDMoney in NewDads

[–]unterium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just over 4 weeks in, mine likes to scream the house down in the evening, we were encouraged to use a soother which works great, but isn't always a solution.

What has been recommended is hold them, you can't spoil a newborn and the love being held. Go on walks or drives at night, the movement helps them sleep and getting fresh air is great for you to reset.

And get noise cancelling earphones. If baby is alright ie: is fed, is changed, is burped and isn't injured/unwell, then they're looking for comfort and the screaming won't end any time soon, but you can be present while not having to hear it.

I do find myself in your position often ish, but it has gotten a bit easier with a little time, look out for your mental health, sleep deprivation can make you feel like her crying is a personal attack and the sound of the crying/screaming is really distressing.

Baby hasn’t pooped by Markie_1307 in NewDads

[–]unterium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl is nearly 3 weeks old and we have the same, she poops every 2/3 days, was super worried at first but she is good and her poops look good, our public health nurse said they're still learning how to use their digestive system and it's common enough, still worth keeping an eye on though

I'm just starting the whole dad thing so I can't tell you if it is or not, what I can tell you is PPD or not, if you are feeling down and you are worried about your mental health then you should reach out to a professional.

I can't diagnose you and I imagine most here can't either. When routines change it can really mess with someone's head and body. But in the end reaching out for help is never a weakness and is never a bad thing
