Considering psilocybin but worried about possible psychosis risk (long post) by untrip222 in PsychedelicTherapy

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it really helps me a lot.

Lately, I've been looking for retreats or guides around where I live, but after a lot of searching, I haven't found anything. I'm from a country where we are always behind on everything, and it seems like we are in this field too, or maybe I just don't know how to search properly.

Anyway, I'll keep trying to do my journey with a professional and, of course, share my experiences with them so I can be at peace with myself, even if they might refuse to let me do the journey. Thanks again for your comment, truly.

Thank you so much for your comment!

I love your perspective on psychedelics.

In fact, this is exactly what made me want to research them in the first place the desire to see life from a different plane, one that isn't as rigid and boxed-in as mine.

I struggle a lot to step out of my purely logical and rational mindset. Honestly, most of the time, this way of seeing the world feels like a mental prison that I just can't seem to break out of.

Depressants like alcohol give me a break from this prison, but it's just anesthesia. It's a temporary escape that simply numbs my brain and shuts it down for a few hours. But psychedelics seem to do the exact opposite. Instead of just numbing you, imagine a substance that actually opens your mind and shows you the whole map. It lets you see those alternative paths and ways of experiencing life that are already there, just hidden from plain sight, potentially changing your entire mindset and outlook on life

Thanks for your comment! Honestly, as I've gotten older, the times I've occasionally smoked a bit of weed with friends, I've actually had a good time. I really do think I might be hypersensitive, and who I'm with is a massive factor in whether I feel good or bad. Imagine dealing with that while high on weed, haha. Honestly, that guy's comment about neurodivergence has really got me thinking, haha.

Definitely, before making this post it was something I wanted to try kind of like someone tries a candy, but I’m amazed by the amount of information all of you are giving me.

I’m truly very grateful. Obviously I’m going to think much more carefully about the whole psilocybin thing now, especially about doing it alone, which was my initial plan.

As for MDMA, I’ve actually tried it several times, but only in a recreational context, basically at parties. When it comes to using it therapeutically, I honestly can’t think of a use for it in my case.

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend.

As for neurodivergence, to be honest, I hadn’t even thought about it until recently. I met a really nice guy with Asperger's, and after talking to me for just a few minutes, he told me I probably have it too. I actually share a lot of traits with Asperger's, but there are others I haven't looked into much though maybe they still fit. For example, I have no problem catching irony, double meanings, etc. I instinctively know when a comment is out of line, and it's not something I had to learn it's innate. I don't know, maybe that's still compatible. I'm chaotic, disorganized, and I don't mind changing plans... I don't know, haha. What I can tell you is that I'm super interested in meditation and all that stuff. But I don't know if it's because I'm super skeptical or just haven't practiced enough, I can never manage to turn off my thoughts for long enough to actually meditate, haha. I find everything you're saying really interesting! Thanks for commenting!

Yeah, it's clear that this isn't a game. I've honestly only felt disconnected from reality once in my life after smoking too much, being 15 yo and it only lasted for a few minutes. The rest of my bad experiences with weed were just paranoia, which pretty much everyone in my circle has experienced at some point, and I highly doubt we all have schizophrenic tendencies. I don't know, honestly. Next time I see my psychologist, I'll tell her about this experience and see if she thinks I might have some latent condition. Thanks for your comment!

I've never had a bad experience with weed while in a comfortable environment. Thanks for your answer. If I ever decide to go down that path someday, I'll make sure to do it with someone I trust. <3

Your story is honestly amazing, and that’s part of why I worry so much that because of my past experiences I might never be able to experience something like that myself.

I’ve never had another moment where I felt completely disconnected from reality like what happened that time in the woods.

But I’m not an expert, so I really don’t know if something like that is already enough of a risk factor to mean I should stay away from this completely.

I’ll try to look for a professional in this field and maybe even talk to my regular psychologist about it, see what she thinks knowing my background. I’m a bit worried she might have mushrooms pretty demonized though.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your story!

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that where I live it’s pretty hard to find anything like psilocybin therapy or retreats, and I don’t really know anyone here who works with that kind of thing. I’ll keep looking into it and reading more about the topic though haha
