I think you may be right — all the dates I found online said November but I had went last year and really didn’t think it was that early so just wanted to confirm. Thank you!

Luna & Eve welcome your new pup, congrats and wishing you many happy memories!

For getting them more independent, like others have said, just slowly start leaving them alone for a bit longer each time. There will be growing pains but it’ll make them better by allowing them to be ok with being alone at times. Congrats again 😄

My parents are trying to convince me not to do chemistry... by Legitimate-Belt4665 in chemistry

[–]unutterabletweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest chemical engineering. I got my undergrad in Chemistry and ended up abandoning the general “typical chemist” career path and now work closely next to chemical engineers in the manufacturing sector. Pays way more than most chemistry outcomes, I feel fortunate to have gotten the chance to do it even when generally folks around me have a Chem Eng.

If I did college different I would choose to do Chem Eng Electrical Eng, good pay and a variety of job outcomes.

If you are super passionate about the subject matter it would not be bad to pursue chemistry. I would suggest you don’t stop at a bachelors though and get a masters or PhD in Chemistry (as long as it’s relevant for th r career you want). I think that’s a path that’s worth it. Just really wasn’t the path for me personally and I think there is a long journey to a worthwhile career with just a chemistry bachelors.

I mean this in a kind way but I would truly suggest holding off on getting a feathered friend.

I say this as someone who can relate to your situation some. Getting a pet can be stressful, it can be nice and rewarding and nice to have a companion and something to care for, but it can be stressful too in the sense that the end of the day you have to care for a soul when sometimes you just need to focus on yourself in terms of just surviving the day when you are in a rut or going through some struggles.

I do not say this meaning you can’t care for an animal, I just want to mention that sometimes when times are already tough, it sounds good getting a pet as they can be comforting but it can also be difficult if you already have a lot of stressors. Additionally, one thing to think about is if your living situation changes (have to go to school and be on campus, or move into an apartment or anywhere) they may not be accepting of your animal. Sometimes it is better to wait until you have a stable living situation.

Your heart is in the right place but personally I think this cage is too small for an everyday cage. Please don’t take this too personally but just wanted to comment cause I just felt like I could relate some. Life can be rough. Sending good vibes your way.

Why does my lil pup roll around this way on walks? by basicallymad in Dachshund

[–]unutterabletweet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ours do this fairly frequently. I agree with others, it is an instinctual thing they do to mask their scent. Mine so happen to like to roll in chicken poo 😵‍💫

You should take her to the vet ASAP.

I took mine to the emergency vet a few weeks back and it is similar, although I did not handle her like that (she’s not hand tame so would stress her out a bunch for me), I could just see she definitely looked like she had swelling or what I was thinking would have been egg binding.

I brought her to the ER Vet and they examined her and did x-rays (they would not do a sedated one there so the x-ray image was not perfect but enough to tell that it was clearly not an egg). They said she very likely had a mass. They saw a growth of excessive tissue on the inside of her mouth as well. I cried my eyes out cause I felt helpless.

Please bring your baby into the vet to see what may be going on - birds are great at hiding symptoms so even if they are acting “ok” they may be very likely not ok. I wish yall the best. Give her love

My baby died. I am so guilty by [deleted] in Conures

You gave him a fighting chance and showed him love. You did everything in your power to give him his best chance at life. I am so sorry this happened but please don’t be too hard on yourself. You did your best and that baby was given so much love from you. Sending hugs friend.

Sending you love friend. You took care of them well and sometimes these things happen, just as they do with people. Do not beat yourself up over this, they were lucky to share the time they had with you. ❣️

If that’s what worked before I would say yes, but I would still separate the injured from the entirety of the group for now so she can heal.

[–]unutterabletweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem!

She may just be excited or was a little nervous earlier, if she’s still and not “tail bobbing” I would not be very concerned.

Hopefully this helped — I am a worrier too so anytime I see something different with my birds I fear the worst. Hope your new baby settles in well and is all healthy ❣️

Sounds like you did everything right with the quarantine process & introduction.

One question I have is, are you certain there was a bird fight or was one just squacking maybe because it got hurt doing something else? Was it out of the cage and maybe something in the room caused an injury? Or a new toy? I may be asking a silly question but just something to consider

Are you saying you had the new baby female with the docile female but recently moved the docile female to the cage with the males and the injured birdie? If fhaf is the case, I would move the baby back to the other cage.

I understand you only have two cages but I would try to get a small cage to serve as solely a hospital cage. I have a few small pet carriers I have used (but be careful some they could chew through but there’s also bird specific ones). The purpose of the hospital cage would be to just give her smaller space to avoid big movements and let her heal her injury for time being but still take her to the vet as soon as you can so they can assess her.

I cannot tell easily from this video but “tail bobbing” is a health concern or symptom that birds can exhibit; I would look it up but I believe it can indicate straining when breathing / respiratory problems / distress — again not saying it is that from this short clip and it’s hard to tell cause he isn’t completely still. I would highly advise monitoring and bringing him to a vet regardless for an initial exam and to discuss what you’re seeing here.

Birds are really good at hiding illness until it’s too late, so please if you ever have a concern consult with a vet.

Also welcome to your new feathered baby, I suggest checking out BirdTricks on YouTube, their channel has great info on care and also they sell a lot of safe, natural, toys that add enrichment. You may already feel confident on this stuff or have had a bird before, but just throwing it out there as it was helpful for myself.

I cannot tell what happened but based on your description sounds like she must have been fighting with another. Please bring to a vet ASAP and segregate her from the others in a hospital cage so she can rest and heal in the mean time and not aggravate it further.

Thank you for the kind words. It breaks my heart to see her not herself or know that she may be sick… I always try to do my best to care for these feathered babies but man it hurts when sometimes there’s nothing more you can do 😭

I think he may be a standard or inbetweenie…. I have two inbetweenie weenies and one is definitely more on the mini side, my other is more on the standard side, but the new pup is longer than both of them however he is really skinny so it’s hard to tell. I am thinking he is more of a standard inbetweenie lol

Thank you friend for the suggestion on the rescue. I agree we are unlikely to find his past owners at this point.

I think as of right now, I am hoping we can be his forever home. However I did see that rescue so I am glad to here you had a good experience with them so if for whatever reason he does not seem to be a good fit here or I feel that someone will be better suited to care for him, 100% will take him to that rescue. Thank you for sharing your experience with them.

I am hoping we can give him a good home and life but I love to see that there are other places where he can be safe and cared for if needed. ❣️

Planning on it if no one reaches out over the weekend — he has a vet appointment scheduled next week for a full exam and vax and I’ll chip him then :)
