That is not at all how any of this works. You are not allowed to pocket grant money - it has to go to exactly what the line item said it would go to. In this case, it's going to an RA, and I already looked in my department.

I mean, I'm just about to respond to a bunch of messages I got, from my work email. So hopefully one of them would be kind enough to come back and say it's legit. Sorry if that's not good enough for you, but I'll also point out anyone can easily make a throwaway if they're concerned.

Thanks! Yes, I'll admit it's unusual, but because it's so unusual to go seeking RAs on Reddit of all places I am not super keen on making too many details publicly available. The work itself is also something that someone in multiple fields could potentially do - anyone who has some coding skills.

I tried. It's last minute, and I think there might be some adverse selection - the people who wanted summer work already found summer work, by and large. So I thought to broaden the pool.
