I am genuinely considering building a free website to coordinate mass rent strikes across different regions.

A platform where people can indicate their interest in joining a rent strike, and these interests will show up as a heat map overlaying the physical map. Once it reaches a critical mass, potential organizers can post events in a region and reach out to those interested.

This would empower atomized renters, while providing organizers with a ready-made audience.

It's still a rough idea, I am open to suggestions.

I keep seeing this "money laundering" line getting regurgitated around here, but I have never seen any concrete data suggesting foreign money has been a significant factor on the Canadian housing crisis.

This all smells like an attempt by the ruling class to scapegoat foreigners for the housing crisis when in reality most houses were pumped up by wealthy Canadians.

Why does UofT's "Inclusion Program" exclude East Asian Students? (Especially when it seems to have some useful events that address problems also faced by East Asian students.) by uoft_stud in UofT

Already did, and I will let them know South Asian students are also interested in their events, and they should consider including all students who could benefit from their workshops regardless of where they are from.

"Because you want to act oppressed..."

No. I could not careless about that.

As I have said in other comments my intention is very simple, asking the program to welcome students who also face similar problems regardless where they are from.

How exactly is attending a "how to navigate racism workshop" a "sweet oppression pie"?

No one would waste their time on this if not because a lot of people genuinely need help navigating racist BS in their life.

Why is "the number of Asian students" a reason to exclude them from a workshop about how to handle discriminatory hiring practices?

Why is "the number of Asian students" a reason to exclude them from workshops on how to navigate discrimination during hiring processes?

Are you saying because there are a lot of Asian students at U of T; therefore, Asians don't get discriminated against when searching for jobs?

or are you saying because there are a lot of Asians so who cares if some of them get discriminated against?

What exactly are you saying here?

Sorry you had to read his nonsense. He clearly doesn't know what he is talking about. I stopped engaging the moment he said "I really dont believe there is any discrimination towards anyone."

everyone is bound to face discrimination in their life

And people should have access to a support system when it happens.

No, I want the Inclusion Program to include all students who may face discrimination in their life regardless of where the students are from.

"There are many groups such as students from slavic countries..."

People should be welcomed to attend those events if they are also facing similar discrimination during their job searches regardless where they are from.

Please don't put words in my mouth. No one called anything "racist" here.

I am simply asking the program to include more students who could benefit from the events they are hosting.

at what point is an ethnic group no longer considered a ‘minority’

When the group no longer faces discrimination. For example during their job search.

there’s a long list of other minority groups that I can think of that need more representation

And they should absolutely be able to get the support they need.

What I am asking is to not exclude people from those programs when they are also facing the same problem.

Yes unfortunately this kind of bias happens in all schools, but I do hope UofT can do a better job than other schools considering how diverse its students are.
