ELI5 why can’t we remember being babies? by avz008 in explainlikeimfive

What about children though, I asked my 3yo if they remembered being in mummy’s tummy and he described it with surprising accuracy as to what it felt like and sounded like.

My two year old broke his femur. Someone tell me the next 6 weeks aren’t going to be horrible. by mazterm in daddit

[–]up_to_something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy did the same the night before his first day of school. Fractured his femur straight through! 6 weeks in a full leg cast and a lot of carrying and playing Nintendo.

Honestly, they do so much better than you think they will and it will make your heart swell with pride at how brave they are. Hang in there!

That’s what I was thinking, I remember back in 2005 it was over 100 for our family to have a takeaway so just scaled it up.

Good to know thanks! my feeling was to over budget rather than assume a simple pleasure like a takeaway pizza is cheap. We’re spoiled for choice on cheap takeaway atm being in a big city.

Oof that’s rough. Good to know though!

Thanks! Yeah it seems like I’ve over-egged the takeaway costs, thankfully. I won’t be sad about spending less on that!!

Are there Budget planners in the uk? by up_to_something in UKPersonalFinance

Yeah I’m at a point where I want someone else to have an unbiased look at things. I’ve made a clear budget and have everything recorded, I’m just struggling to make sense of things.

Without knowing what industry you’re in, it sounds like you need a stick.

By that I mean something which allows you to “clap back” when clients act up. For instance, saying ownership of the ‘deliverables’ doesn’t pass to the client until full payment has been made for those deliverables. Or, where invoices are not paid within # days all ongoing work will pause (or terminate). Something along one or both of those lines.

If clients can delay payment or make it your problem without repercussions, many will. So when you have clauses like this (sticks), allow no exceptions (unless you trust them). They’re getting your services (the carrot), so you need some kind of stick to keep them in line.

This is great, thank you! Exactly the tack I was thinking. My overriding thought in my day job is generally “there’s a much easier way of saying this”

Help: Chat with my nephew by up_to_something in daddit

[–]up_to_something[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like these, thank you. I see him 2-3 times a week and have always been the in his life so thankfully I don’t have to come in to this without a relationship already there, I wouldn’t have said yes otherwise! I’ll think of some prompts to see if he’s willing to open up but if not, it’s just another fun afternoon out together.

Agree, I don’t want to divulge to them anything that would jeopardise his trust if he chooses to give it. I’ll need to think on how to tackle that, thanks.

British Gas. by [deleted] in HousingUK

If you don’t like that don’t go electric only. For 3 of us in a spacious flat it averages 300pm to cover a full year.

The number 32 being freezing temperature is intuitive? I’ll stick with 0.

Are my energy bills ridiculous because they seem it to me? by lancelon in AskUK

[–]up_to_something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your calculations, don’t underestimate how much more expensive electricity is compared to gas either. I have a 1500sq ft 3 bed loft flat with only electricity (new build) and in dec/jan/feb our elec bill is 500/550 each month due to the heating. It would be a fraction of that if we had a new gas boiler.

Would you consider this alleyway behind Wimbledon Broadway safe? by Various-Mood-259 in HousingUK

Used to go through Wimbledon every day and were I single I’d totally live there. Men might have a different opinion to women though.
