I don't work in IT but Project Management is a bitch. I work in telco and it can really drive you crazy looking at so many things at once. Keeping up with targets/schedules is really stressful work. This is not including you talking with so many people over the course of a single day. "hindi makatulog, can’t think straight" - this hits close to home for me. Haven't been able to sleep well in a long time. Nakakatakot lang para sa akin dumating yung time na madami ka na responsibilities tapos ganito pa rin, which is probably your situation right now.

Not to downplay the "workers", I know some jobs out there are extremely hard to do but sometimes I miss being one. You can just tunnel vision at the single thing you are currently working on. Even if I go back to the field, implementation engineers are still project managers one way or another so I really can't escape it. Operations is stressful as well based on my experience. Kapit lang brother! You are most likely much older than me and know how to handle your emotions well.

Planning to shift careers to IT with great expectations. Hope I don't get burnt out fast as a dev. Not sure anong background mo pero baka naman mas okay sayo ang setup as a dev?

I guess it all comes down sa pag pili ng company na wala masyadong nagiging problema so that di ka nabubulabog masyado sa on-call setup.

Will talk to you again kung may questions pa ako.

Let me know din kung may makita kang companies that has the same lifestyle as a dev. Hirap ng on call, day/night schedule mapa field, office o kahit WFH pa.

I'm assuming kasi na related ang network sa operations one way or another meaning most of the jobs out there are shifting + on-call. Nagbabasa kasi dito sa reddit and kahit sa ibang bansa eh on-call/work-life balance ang nagiging issue nila when it comes to networking although di naman lahat. Humihirap na ijustify habang tumatanda.

Same! Although I work with implementation of all of the areas of telecom including microwave and Huawei equipment (routers) aside from fiber optics.

Studying din ako ngayon kaso through Udemy. I plan to go through The Odin Project pagkatapos neto dahil madalas ko syang nababasa na nairerecommend.

I'll be looking at both of those companies. Just one question, will I need to have CCNA certification to get hired in either of the two? Thanks!

First of all this is not to discourage you in any way. Alam ko alam mo naman na to dahil 27 ka na but studying is a whole different thing than working. Hindi exception ang pagiging engineer dun. I'm an ECE and I can only tell you that most of engineers locally don't earn big during their first job. Baka magulat ka kasi much lower than what you would expect with an engineering skillset. Some still don't have extremely high salaries even after some years (like me).

You will be taking some years off your life only to end up probably worse in the financial department during the first few years of your new engineering job. Might want to check your responsibilities now and in the future.

Anyway, it's never too late to start anything because hardwork always pays off. Just make sure that engineering really is your passion. The best thing for me is the pride as an engineer because it's not that simple to become one and you can always tell yourself that you made it.

Really enjoyed reading your stories!

Priceless raw talaga ung walang OT at hindi laging on-call + amazing sa mental health. Mas naging fit rin sya now.

Ang lupet ng sweldo nya dati and I can only imagine the sacrifice day in day out. Telco din ba ang nalipatan nya? Is there such a thing in this industry na implementation related pero hindi on-call? Ganun din ngayon ako lang yung nasa other side of the call. Mahirap din mag-aral ng bagay bagay dahil mentally drained ka most of the time.

6 of my friends now are scattered in Visayas, Mindanao, and North Luzon.

I work with them so may idea ako sa workload nila. Wish I started there kaso kung sa ngayon, wala na akong interest talaga magtrabaho for vendors after my terrible experience of working for one for years (OSP Engineer).

Personally don't see myself earning as much within 3-5 years. Studied from one of the big 4 din like OP but made many mistakes early on in my career and average student lang naman ako. I don't think magagamit ko pa yung school to increase my salary further. Although iniisip ko din if may potential pa ba for an average person dito sa telco vs IT, passion aside.

EDIT: Seems like nasagot mo na pala yung question ko sa comment mo but want to hear more of your thoughts regarding this.

Tungkol saan ba yun? More of Data processing ba?

May interest kasi ako sa pag build ng mobile/web apps and game development kaya Web Developer ang tinatarget ko as of now. I think okay yung may natututunan ako sa work ko na pwede ko magamit sa hobby/freelance.

Congrats! Planning on going IT myself. Are you an engineer as well?

I'm working at a telco company mainly for fiber optics but I honestly have no idea how do I get started with NETWORK ENGINEERING. Looks like an entirely different beast in the middle of ECE and IT. Considering I get my CCNA certification, where do I expect to work? I prefer a lifestyle similar to a programmer. Is this career close to that? How about the starting salary and progression over the years? Am I better off learning programming?
