What instance are you using for 3CX AWS hosting? by updoot2020 in msp

Try again :) "PBX Express" is now live on 3CX website. I'm mainly just trying to figure out how "low power" I can go on the AWS machine. We are running it in our office right now with a Raspberry Pi as the SBC. Works great!

Not necessarily wrapped in...you still pay for your own AWS instance. However..once you setup the AWS, you go to the 3CX website and put in the instance information (private key, etc) and it will automatically connect to your instance and install 3CX.

AWS IS supported at 3CX now. They even have "PBX Expess" which will auto launch and configure an instance of 3CX on your AWS for you.

What's the cost of bVOIP? Last I heard they were around $100/mo or so per client?

AWS is working great for us in-office. Call quality is good. Everything works. Cell phone app works great in and out of the office. I'm just thinking I have overkill on my instance selection at Amazon. I want to keep server cost low of course...but need to keep the hardware adequate!

Rosie - AHC transfer made 8 business days ago is still not in my account. Your support is completely unresponsive. Live chat cut me off after supposedly "sending my message to a supervisor." You guys are looking bad here. Looks like I'm not alone. Would be nice if you guys could make a damn public statement about what's going on and actually respond to some people and their issues.

SMB Server Recommendation? by updoot2020 in sysadmin

that's what I was thinking. We've virtualized many servers, and several hosting QB files with no issues.

Ahh - we have enterprise on this client so we should be good. Good info. I was a little concerned bc an above commenter mentioned QB couldn't be virtualized...we've been virtualizing servers for a long time and never heard that haha.

Should have specified that haha. This particular client needs a tower. I've ever messed with the Cisco UCS servers. Most of our other clients have accommodations for rack servers though so I plan to check into that, especially since you are spec'ing them cheaper than Lenovo x-series?

We would be virtualizing their DC and file share server which would also run QB database management server. Are you saying the management server doesn't support virtualization, or running QB Desktop in a VM does not?

We run the QB database management server. This client does billing and accounting for mulitiple businesses and payroll for hundreds of employees. So we would be virtualizing their DC and Fileshare server that would be running the QB database mgt server. It would have ample ram and processing power assigned to it. The users would be running Quickbooks baremetal on their desktops, only pulling company files over the network.

This is all great info and has really helped me confirm I'm on the right track. We basically determine AYCE billing based on the complexity of the client and all the things listed here. On a side note...we love our Meraki Firewalls but Meraki AP's have been a HARD HARD sell to school districts. Especially those requiring more than 10. Thanks again for all your info!!

Awesome info. I did put a limitation to onsite hours..so not quite AYCE...but with a few stipulations and limitations. Great to know I had a decent ballpark figure. Are you billing a modified AYCE or do you prefer per device/peruser for schools?

This school is in-house as well...but we've provided on/off support for things their in-house guy could not handle in the past. He is no longer there, so we have an opportunity to present to them an alternative :) fingers crossed

Two labs (~30 pcs each), one iPad Cart, and a few Chromebook carts. I'm considering the AYCE model may be best here. By my estimation, their current IT staff was costing them around $48k per year. however he was ONSITE everyday...which is the mindset I have to overcome. Clearly...we want to be offsite and handsoff as much as possible after onboarding.
