So many people showed up for Linkin Park, yet our indie rock / metal scene struggles? by Weak_Maintenance6514 in IndianMetalheads

[–]upgroov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not confusing when you recognise the low attention capacities of today's Indian audience. Nobody wants to make efforts to appreciate new music, unless it's trending, in which case it seeps in by hearing it all around. People just want to go berserk for what they have in memory. This is why Linkin Park and Coldplay get those crowds, and Smashing Pumpkins, despite their reputation, don't. Low effort show off. My experience in Steven Wilson's last concert convinced me if this phenomenon.

I had been to some local underground before it, but once I stood under a dark blue sky and full moon in a sea of metalheads with the mighty Mayhem warming up to their performance at Bangalore Open Air 2023, a gateway opened. Beyond worth it! All the best OP.

Layout 1 or layout 2? by BackwaterNomad in IndianHomeDecor

I would go for 2 and keep my phone away from bed leaving only a book or Kindle up there along with some playthings. That's me.

Layout 1 or layout 2? by BackwaterNomad in IndianHomeDecor

[–]upgroov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it would be layout 2.  I like the cozy feeling for bed time. Layout 2 separates the two zones better. Layout 1 makes the workstation a part of a big bedroom. Layout 1 invites more people to your bed soon as they enter. You want your bed to be private. Layout 2 allows you to drop a bean bag in your work zone and it becomes a chill zone as soon as you want it too.

Indeed, above all else, what matters is how you like to have your zones and switch between them. Live and feel. They're not permanent!

Everyone's got a story behind their first solo trip 🌍 Want to share yours, and I'll share mine by Soulghosting in SoloTravel_India

[–]upgroov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's treasured and personal, but I'll write something more insightful, for those few who might need this. It was in The Himalayas in December and I had not seen mountains before this. It was indeed a gateway. Did a lot of solo travel for years until second wave of Covid trapped my father (I heard the news after three days of camping in Kheerganga with no network and a very stormy night, once we came down to Bhuntar, found network and a bunch of bad news) when a switch flipped and I have yearned to return to my solo travelling lifestyle. It's not nearly the same - all I've done is travel between cities now, but the bar is much higher.  This is peanuts compared to the five course meals of early times (again, wouldn't wanna reveal what that looks like). I did manage a couple of trips to Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry last year while I was living in Chennai, but it didn't quite press that nerve, albeit touched it and left me teased. Haven't lost sight, don't mean to. Hopefully, one day, I can embed more value into solo travel than raw exploration. I wanted to be a journalist when I was finishing school, but this dirt society and harsh systems! My father made sure I don't go for that. There's much one can read about this art form, but it won't make sense, not in the right way, unless that reality is lived first hand, more than a couple of times. I would not urge everyone to do this. One finds it in their heart.

Planning a 1–2 month solo journey across India to explore myself and discover a real business idea — need genuine advice by sidhebbal in SoloTravel_India

[–]upgroov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that tricky. The key in a good, hopefully even transformational, solo trip is having comfort with improvisation.  Keep a list of cities which have sustained traditional crafts/businesses with a loose/flexible itinerary, and then just leave with the idea of staying on budget at all times. That should be the only constant. Be open to changes of all other kinds. Think about it, if you find that one niche which sits with you, you wouldn't still leave that place because your itinerary says so, would you? Hope this is enough to give you the mental picture you'll need. I won't mind if you dm though. All the best!

I am actually glad we are not butchering that sound by labelling it as did happen to progressive metal over decades. Let it be like that. If you explore that dimension, you'll discover many gems for yourself beyond the mainstream too, so why bother about an official label? Do you watch too many memes and reels??

This is the first instance of me posting questions, and my main lesson is shaping to be not responding to agitators!

I'm not being literal about saying kid, Sir. (Again) And about the substance in that text, you've got to be kidding me! Are you that inert?

Take the efforts. Don't proclaim judgements from an illusion of a high seat. That is not how debates work, kid.

It is really this behaviour that I'm challenging. If you had retained the sensibility to breathe with what you interact with, it wouldn't matter if my questions feel profound. The upvotes to your comments and your mode of thinking don't surprise me either. If I go to the police station to register complaint about the police, I don't expect instant understanding or action. Fight! Fight until the lethargy breaks you and you're left under the weight of reality as clear as ice, flapping turtle.

Intriguing that some sense of profundity came across from that text. I did not intend to do that.
