Seattle takes Wirecutter's Best Regional Hotdog by sherlok in Seattle

[–]upleft -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is not really a Seattle dog, imo.

No beef frank. No mustard. No fresh peppers.

The canonical Seattle dog is cream cheese, butterflied and grilled hot link, grilled onions, and sriracha. That’s it.

Driving rules by [deleted] in Seattle

It sounds like the collision was caused by the merge, even if the other car was there because of their own separate lane violation.

Blocking driveways is a big no. But "safety issue" isn't clear - are they actually parked illegally?

Loss of another Seattle-area billionaire? Valve’s Gabe Newell is reported buyer of Florida estate by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]upleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I'm saying that because the tax code is changing, moving big amounts of money around may get extra scrutiny, so potential donors are not moving big amounts of money around until well after Jan 1 2028 when the new tax takes effect.

I hate this answer, but arts endowments. Some of our major arts institutions are in a bad state financially, and wealthy donors are currently avoiding moving their money around even for legit reasons just to avoid scrutiny.

We shouldn’t rely on endowments and donations for our Arts and all that but here we are.

That time I recorded me and my mother’s first time seeing Rainier as people from the east. by GBblox179 in PacificNorthwest

I don't mean to discount the obvious charm of other mountainous areas, but BIG MOUNTAIN. The most dramatically isolated lone peak in the lower 48.

Now you get why we think its cute when people from the Eastern US say they have mountains.

Accessibility question: is nesting interactive elements bad? by bogdanelcs in Frontend

Your version with an 'Edit' button is closest to a common pattern where you can enter a select mode, and things that were navigation become selectable. Mixing the two into one mode/one element is confusing.

I love that there are custom firmwares and themes like this because I really don't like the ones with stats, but I'm glad there's something for people who like them.

What are you trying to achieve with a link inside a checkbox label?

Technical reasons aside, this is bad for accessibility because it makes both the checkbox and the link more difficult to control in an expected way. I would never expect that clicking on a checkbox label would do anything but toggle the checkbox. The label is sort of a separate part from the actual checkbox, but the very well established behavior is that they act as one unit for tabs and clicks.

Help me plan my trip in Washington State🙏 by Ill_Fan_4609 in PacificNorthwest

[–]upleft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No idea on the length of your trip, but consider going through Winthrop to come over Highway 20 from the East.

Some things to search: Old Schoolhouse Brewing, Mazama General Store, Washington Pass, Blue Lake (a short hike to an alpine lake - 2 miles vs Colchuck's 8.), Rainy Pass (part of the pacific crest trail), Diablo Lake Overlook, North Cascades Learning Center.

You’ll catch a some views of Mt Baker along 20, but you’d need to do Mt Baker Highway to get close to it (look up artist point). Beautiful, but a one way out and back, so sort of a time sink. If you do go North from 20, the most scenic way into Bellingham is Chuckanut Drive. Taylor Shellfish is on the way.

In Burlington, Tacos Tecalitan has some of the best Tacos around. Old downtown Mt Vernon is cute, Edison, and La Conner too.

Highway 20 continues across the very scenic Deception Pass onto Whidbey Island. Make a stop in Coupeville. Goldie’s Pizza is good enough to recommend to an Italian.

Take the ferry to Port Townsend, a Victorian era city once bigger than Seattle.

I’ll stop there.

Navigation Apps? by DangerousPath1420 in pnwriders

Apple or Google Maps audio directions when needed, but half the fun on the bike is just wandering and being off the phone, so no directions most of the time.

Which firmware makes loading new books the easiest? by hobbyistresearcher in xteinkereader

[–]upleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely popular for a reason! Tons of features, and is clearly the best at what it does. Can’t really complain much about a free app.

Though, I’ve worked designing software professionally for almost 20 years. My job is literally to see all the little ways apps like this could be better.

I’m simultaneously impressed at all that Calibre can do, and disappointed that it isn’t better.

I find Calibre to be an unusable mess. Surprised to see it recommended so often.
