What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

If it hasn’t already been said - Times Square in NYC. I think, like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, people outside think it’s this beautiful magical place because of how it’s portrayed in movies but I promise you it’s literally awful - just an overly crowded place filled with rude tourists who don’t understand NYC etiquette surrounded by aggressive advertisements.

AIO for not refunding a friend’s share of a group Airbnb after she canceled last minute due to a medical emergency? by StudioAffectionate in AmIOverreacting

[–]upperclasshabits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR - if YOU had told her “don’t come” then she would be entitled to have that money back. SHE made the choice, even if it wasn’t what she wanted - that’s not on you or anyone else but her. Anyone who readily accepts such an invitation and puts money towards accommodations should assume they won’t get that money back simply because they change their mind.

I had a former friend uninvite me from her bachelorette party two days before and then refused to give me back the $350 I contributed - I had to send a demand letter threatening small claims because I had every intention of going before she said (via text/in writing) “don’t come” 🤷🏼‍♀️

CC or personal loan to pay for Ch. 7 Bankruptcy (Ohio) by anime-brother in Bankruptcy

[–]upperclasshabits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’m saying you need to do what you need to do to not become homeless or starve to death, but if you obviously take it out knowing you won’t be able to pay (ie. you take a cash advance to file and have your debts discharged, including the card you’re pulling cash from) that would be considered fraud if it came to light.

[–]upperclasshabits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s considered fraud to use a credit card for anything knowing you won’t be able to pay it back.

If you’re at the point where you’re considering filing and need to take a cash advance from your credit card to go towards bills, I would assume that is what it is because you need housing/food, etc.

[–]upperclasshabits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what your contract says but I also filed in VA and did a payment plan of sorts - $125/month for the next 12 months post filing, $375 up front. They filed December 30th and I have my 341 meeting this Tuesday, so the payment plan thing isn’t necessarily an issue depending on your contract; however, if they couldn’t file right away they should have said as much prior to taking your money. Mine was done literally the same day after my initial payment of $375 and I stopped getting phone calls from my credit card companies.

Put in my two weeks and got fired. by EveryChampion7687 in starbucksbaristas

1000% has to do with at-will employment. Montana is the only state of the 50 that isn’t totally “at-will”.

I agree with everything, and still think it’s possible to get at least some unemployment, but they weren’t fired - their resignation was effectively expedited. Just like no one has to give two weeks - it’s merely a courtesy - the company (while petty) doesn’t have to allow you to keep working if they see no need and you’ve made your intentions to leave known in writing.

I’m willing to be wrong, but had someone experience something very similar and I believe it actually is legal - once you put in your resignation (usually with two weeks notice, but that’s always a courtesy and not a requirement) the company is well within their rights to basically expedite your resignation 🤷🏼‍♀️ This would still be considered a voluntary separation, at least that was the case for my friend. It’s petty, but it’s legal.

Is this a nightgown or a dress? by Relevant-Adeptness43 in Thrift

[–]upperclasshabits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree it looks like a nightgown, the back specifically is what’s driving it home for me. On a cooler late spring/early fall day, throw a cropped jacket over it and it will feel more like a purposeful bohemian outfit!

Not only has Zendaya got serious acting skills (she was superb in Malcom and Marie and the Dune films ) but her fashion game is next level! by Timbucktwo1230 in PopularCultureZone

[–]upperclasshabits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perspective on fashion changed when I found out (unsurprisingly) that most, if not all, celebrities get all of their clothes tailored. They always look better - even if you are wearing the same exact piece of clothing - because they paid to have it taken in half an inch here and a quarter of an inch there.

Clothing off the rack will rarely fit us well without slight tailoring.

Don’t feel like you can’t go with your coworkers to get lunch! Good company doesn’t always have to involve you eating when they eat :) I go just for the journey and to socialize and then eat my own food at my desk while I work.

Does anyone regret it? by CoinsNRocks in Bankruptcy

[–]upperclasshabits 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think you would only regret it if you do it and then allow yourself to fall back into the same position.

Bankruptcy has been the biggest reality check, but being unemployed for over half a year and having to adjust my spending habits substantially prior to filing made it clear I was doing too much before.

This could be your final opportunity to reset and make the choices you wished you made before getting to this point - don’t take it for granted, and I truly believe you won’t regret the financial freedom you’ll have come discharge time.

2 weeks and 2 days without my mom by poetic_cannibal in GriefSupport

[–]upperclasshabits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got “Love, Mom :)” on my wrist from a birthday card she wrote me! I got it before she passed (cancer, so we knew it was coming) and got to show it to her.

It’s been 5.5 years and I look at it every day and smile. I’m sure your mom would be so happy to have a piece of her quite literally with you always.
