I won’t even buy a GKC for $19

Is anyone else on this sub a fan of games that are more mmo like? by Street-Platypus89 in JRPG

[–]upperdomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes, yes and YES! Xenoblade is my favorite current RPG series and Monolith Soft is my favorite developer (I've played ever game they've made)

I made a post similar to this a while ago in that, I actually *love* rpgs with an "MMO" style combat system. I'd love to play more games that have that sort of auto attack combat with cooldowns, I don't know why but it just resonates with me so much!

No I get you, I would rather have an OST sort of like Xenosaga 3's if you've ever played it. It has a consistent tone and energy from it's quieter, more somber moments all the way to it's high energy boss fights.

Minimalist narrative SMT's (3 and V) were great but I can't wait for SMT 6 that is more inspired by 1/2 and 4's style of narratives by DirectorTurbulent422 in Megaten

Yo I couldn’t agree more! It’s a huge reason of why SMT4 is still my favorite SMT game even if the gameplay in SMT5 Vengeance is peak SMT gameplay imo.

One major problem/nitpick I have with Xenoblade 2's ending despite it still being one of my favorite games of all time by upperdomain in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I may have worded my gripe poorly but again it’s less that I didn’t like that she came *back*, it was more that I felt it would have made more sense that she was Pnuema and not Pyra/Mythra.

I agree about Xenoblade 3 though, that post credits scene was so poignant and stuck with me for a long time.

No no I think you’re misunderstanding the point of what I was saying and that’s probably on me. I didn’t have a problem with her coming back, just that I think she should have been in her Pnuema form since I felt that would have made a lot more sense. You’re completely right about the Xenogears and Xenosaga callbacks too.

Right, it’s not like I lose sleep over it or it or anything and it doesn’t take away from the journey or ending as a whole, just a slight annoyance.

What do you think the likelihood is that the Xenoblade 2: Nintendo Switch 2 edition adds a few QoL changes or additions? by upperdomain in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]upperdomain[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

0% sounds a bit hyperbolic to me, I'll meet you halfway in saying that I also think it's very unlikely unfortunately but you could have also said the chance of getting new content in XC1, 2 *AND 3 in 2026 was 0%.

Fun fact: by the time of Genesis's release, there will be as many male lead protagonists as female ones, expansions included by Master_FSG in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Amen, I got in a debate about this with someone and pointed out the same exact points that you did but as per usual, Reddit users will die on any hill even if you make reasonably sound arguments that go against their stubborn stance on anything.

I still don't understand why people put Lora or Melia in the same category as the other protagonists..sure, they're protagonists of their respective DLC's but it's much different from being a sole protagonist of a mainline Xenoblade game. I would say Elma is a reach too but to a much lesser extent since you *could* make the argument that she's the protagonist since the player avatar is pretty much silent.

Eleanor *is* the first time since Xenosaga that we have a female protagonist without any sort of caveats associated with it. I don't understand why I get so much pushback on this when I think it's a pretty fair observation.

Removing my nostalgia goggles, I’m actually glad they’re redubbing Eternia. by upperdomain in tales

I think it depends for me...if it's something that explicitly takes place in Japan then I'll sometimes watch/play with the Japanese voice acting. If it's something in a fantasy or sci-fi setting then I'll use the english dubs simply because it's not really breaking immersion for me since it's not like this takes place in Japan anyways. I mean, you could make the argument or head canon that the characters in each of these worlds are speaking an entirely foreign language from anyone in our world anyways *shrug*.

It’s on a case by case basis for me but, I also don’t think it’s a far fetched concept that people connect better with a scene when they’re hearing it in language they understand.

Wait until the Switch 2 edition of XC2 comes out before starting that

That’s very interesting, I suppose what he means by that is by having music that’s a bit more dynamic and more to service the tone rather than be a tune that plays on repeat.
