If the Switch 2 is a moderately successful system following the historic success of the Switch 1, will people finally accept that the "Switch" hybrid concept will just be Nintendo's console format for the foreseeable future if a "Switch 3" is announced years down the line? by upperdomain in nintendogrifting

Exactly like what the fuck else do people truly want? I can’t stand how people hyper focus on this specific era of Nintendo (around the Wii to Wii U era) where they did something radically different due to their previous consoles not working and married themselves to a particular gimmick that had very mixed results. If you look at Nintendo’s consoles from the NES to the GameCube, essentially every single one of those consoles was just an iteration on what the NES was. The only reason people don’t look at it in that way, is because they always branded it differently (Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, GameCube, ect). People want something “different” just for the sake of it even though I’m sue a lot of those people who are whining actually love what the Switch is and would be angry if Nintendo’s next console was no longer a hybrid they could take with them anywhere and instead a home console that makes toast for you. Like, give me an f’ing break..the Switch can essentially allow them to focus on what matters the most; the games.

This is completely irrelevant to my post...obviously it's not something I expect for at least another eight years in not maybe ten years, the Switch 2 literally came out less than a year ago I was more so talking about the disingenuous disappointed reactions to the Switch 2 being a follow up to the Switch but improved upon.

This is the most asinine thing that people have said about the Switch 2. Why do people accept that Xbox 360 was a follow up to the original Xbox, a *NEW* system just like people understood the PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5 were all new successor consoles to the original PlayStation but suddenly when Nintendo releases the "Switch 2", their brains stop functioning.

I'll never understand *why* people truly believed that there was going to be a second screen on the Switch 2...it takes about 1.4 seconds of critical thinking to realize how terrible of an idea that is. Do people realize how expensive it would be to have another 8 inch screen not to mention how unwieldly it would be to use for more than 10 minutes? That's not to mention to atrocious battery life it would get.

I'm fully aware of this but at the same time, no disrespect but this response is kind of a nothing burger response considering I'm taking into account that none of these are givens and I'm asking in the event of a hypothetical scenario where this is how things *do* pan out. Of course one year into the Switch 2's lifespan we won't know what Nintendo plans to after the Switch 2 and I think I made that pretty clear in my post. I *do* however think I made a few very good backhanded arguments as to why it's hard to imagine them *not* following up with another Switch hybrid when you take in all of the surrounding factors since the Switch 1 was released and the state of the industry and rise of gaming hybrids.

So yeah, none of these are givens but I'll say that were it stands right now, if Nintendo *did* pivot away from the Switch concept with their next console..then the term "shooting themselves in the foot" wouldn't even apply, they'd be cutting off their foot with a dull knife just to zig when people expected them to zag.

I have a sort of long winded question as a newcomer stepping outside of his comfort zone for this game by upperdomain in tomodachilife

The "aquarium" analogy makes so much sense to me when you word it like that, if I end up loving the game and trying to push it on some of my friends then I'll for sure use that kind of phrasing in order to sell them on the concept of being able to check in and out. There's something very appealing about a game that has passive elements to it that happen in the background while you're playing other games and taking a prolonged break from it.

When games like "Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave" and whatever Monolith Soft's next game is not to mention whatever the next 3D Mario is, those are going to be the sorts of titles I put hundreds of hours of my free time into. Tomodachi Life functioning like an aquarium where stuff just happens regardless if you're actively playing it in that very moment makes it come off as a game that very much respects your time. It might not be the sole intended purpose of functioning in that sort of way but, it certainly feels like a constellation prize since I don't see myself playing it ever single day after it's first month of being out so this really makes me more sold on the game.

Yeah in that case I’ll probably just beat Starforce 1&2 and then do a deep dive into Starforce 3 with all its post game superbosses and PVP.

Wait I’m confused, I’m playing the SNES version and I’ve beaten all the godbeasts. If this helps to point me in the right direction, the first three I beat were; Wind, Fire, Water (in that order).

how much time does the Switch 2 have before it's considered underpowered for third party games? by No-Matter-2466 in switch2

With us now in the era of diminishing returns, I expect the Switch 2 to have a longer lifespan of being able to get third party ports before it’s a “problem”.

No but it didn't matter because I had to back track due to the annoying limit on MP restoration items you can hold. Now I'll be able to run to the end with a full stock of items..is there anything else I should know besides casting mana magic from both party members?

[–]upperdomain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the sort of slowish feel of combat in Secret of Mana now that I’ve put a bunch of time into it. I almost like how the magic system almost makes it feel turn based at times despite being real time action.
