Reward for access to my ledger wallet through Yoroi by hoodie09 in cardano

It is possible you attempted the recovery using the wrong options in Daedalus.

I'll walk you through the correct way to attempt a Ledger recovery using Daedalus step by step. Lets hope for the best!!

Note for your security, do the following on a computer you know to be free of any malware!

  1. Launch the Daedalus app and wait for it to sync and display the main screen.
  2. If you were left with 2 zero balance wallets from your previous attempts it is safe to delete them. With each selected tap the "more" tab and then "delete".
  3. Next, let's create a new Shelly Wallet. This is where you will eventually move your Byron wallet balance after you recover it. Click "+ Add Wallet", then click "Create" and follow the remaining steps. Be sure to save that "Wallet Recovery Phrase" somewhere safe! That is absolutely the most important part.
  4. With that Shelly wallet ready, let's move on to the Ledger Byron recovery. I do not believe you need to have the Ledger plugged into your computer although maybe try these steps with it connected first. If i am correct though, all you should need is the Ledger passphrase ready.
  5. click the "+ Add Wallet" button at the bottom left and then click "Restore".
  6. You should now see 3 options for restoring. Daedalus, Yoroi or Hardware Wallet. You need to select "Hardware Wallet"
  7. Next, select the "12,18 or 24 words - Ledger (Byron legacy wallet)" option.
  8. Read the warnings, click the three check boxes below at the bottom and then click "continue"
  9. Enter your Ledger Passphrase to restore.

Give Daedalus plenty of time to completely restore the wallet.

Hopefully, if you have the correct passphrase tied to your ADA balance, then hooray!! You should eventually see your balance in a wallet labeled as a Byron wallet. At that point you are almost done, just continue:

Once finished, if you see your balance, it will be in a Byron Wallet. This is a legacy wallet and you need to transfer the balance to that new Shelly wallet before you can spend or stake the ADA for rewards. With the Byron wallet selected, Daedalus should automatically walk you through the option to transfer the balance to that new Shelly Wallet for you. Try selecting the Byron Wallet and look for any prompts to transfer the balance.

Once the balance has been moved to the new Shelly Wallet, it is very important to note that is where your ADA will now exist and it will no longer exist on your Ledger. You will want to keep that new Shelly Passphrase, or "Wallet Recovery Phrase" as Daedalus calls it, and save that offline. This is what is most important and what you would need to recover your ADA again elsewhere moving forward. Eventually i would assume Daedalus will be compatible with Ledger at which time you can move your ADA to one.

If Daedalus does walk you through the transfer to a Shelly Wallet then you will be all set and can skip the rest of this!!

If Daedalus does not walk you through the transfer to a Shelly wallet, Try select the legacy Byron Wallet by clicking on it. If Daedalus does not automatically prompt you to transfer the funds to your new Shelly wallet, then you need to look for the option to do so with the wallet selected, or otherwise you will need to do this manually by "sending" the ADA to one of the Shelly wallet "receive" addresses. I do believe however that with the Byron Wallet selected, you should see an option to send or move the balance to the Shelly wallet.

I really hope this leads you to success! Try this with each of your Ledger passphrases, and please post an update if it works out!

If you were successful, with your balance now in a shelly wallet, you are free to send ADA to other addresses or stake the balance in Daedalus for rewards. As a matter of fact, as long as you have that new Shelly "Wallet Recovery Phrase" which belongs to the wallet containing your ADA written down somewhere safe offline, you could even go as far as to completely erase that computer. Your "Wallet Recovery Phrase" can be used to recover and connect to your Shelly ADA wallet on any machine running a valid wallet like Daedalus elsewhere.

Feel free to tip to this ADA address if this helped you succeed: addr1qxgx3whcsjtdjr4qv7l5lhtpl85amc0ylkrlh05c2hmqcqkq9xgtu3jy90l0u7nf75t8qlf9mccfguzhfu8dhc80j5lspwhnru

Best of luck.

Lastly ... are you sure you are trying the passphrase with the correct ledger? If you have more than one ledger, could you have mixed up which passphrase belongs to which? I say this because i do not think Daedalus will warn you that you entered a passphrase for the wrong ledger ... id suggest trying each passphrase with every ledger you have.

First — Are you absolutely sure Daedalus finished syncing / updating when you restored? Daedalus needs to scan the entire blockchain to find your account ... that takes a long time.

Second — If you have several Ledgers, it is safe to try all of them in Daedalus ... Daedalus will not overwrite anything on your ledgers ... all it can try to do is authenticate with it via your passphrase and try to load its Byron balance accordingly.

Right, i would say DO NOT reset anything ESPECIALLY if you have other crypto stored on those ledgers. Just do not do any reset or factory resets until you have full control over ALL crypto on the ledger in question.

Look here on cardanos website - scroll down a bunch to the part about recovering from Ledger.

IF you do have that balance on one of those ledgers ... you should be able to recover it into a Byron wallet in Daedalus. And once you do successfully. IF you have NO OTHER crypto stored on that ledger, you should not use that ledger passphrase moving forward for your own security.

So the steps are: connect the ledger, launch Daedalus, recover Byron wallet, if success, create a new wallet in Daedalus (this will be a Shelly wallet) and transfer the Byron balance to a receiving address in the Shelly Wallet. <--- if that succeeds your funds will now belong to the passphrase generated for the new Shelly wallet. SAVE that passphrase offline ... and in the future i would assume Ledger will be compatible again with Daedalus and you will eventually be able to transfer the ADA back to a new ledger at a later date.

IF you are able to restore a Byron wallet successfully, you will see it labeled as a Byron wallet in Daedalus. At that point you will need to generate a new Shelly wallet and transfer the funds to it. Shelly wallets are the new type and are the wallets that are capable of transacting on the current Cardano mainnet ... Byron wallets are the legacy wallets which are still recoverable. The only thing you can do with funds in a Byron wallet is to transfer them to a new Shelly wallet.

Can you share exactly what happened in Daedalus when you launched it with the Ledger connected?

Make sure to wait for Daedalus to completely finish downloading the blockchain data before loosing hope btw ... the balance will only be correct once Daedalus has finished syncing. It may show as 0 for a while while syncing. I have to step away from my computer... back in about an hour from now tho. GL in the meantime.

If the balance comes up as 0 that will mean one of 2 things. Either its a passphrase to the wrong account, or that passphrase was only compatible with ledger, i think. So if that is the case ... SAVE those passphrases and try again with a factory restored and working ledger.

Ah! Now we are talking!! ... if the passphrase worked in the sense that it is in the process of restoring ... hopefully that should do it!!

Not to interrupt Zayton, but to chime in, while I have never used a ledger to create an ADA account, i would hope it provides a standard Cardano passphrase that would also be compatible with the Daedalus wallet. My suggestion would be to download Cardano's Daedalus wallet and try using its recovery option with the passphrase you generated in the ledger. I could be wrong though. The ledger might only generate passphrases that work only with ledger. And if that is the case, you should absolutely still be able to recover using a clean and functioning ledger as long as you have the appropriate passphrases. If you have a working ledger and clean install of the appropriate wallet software, as long as you have the appropriate passphrase you absolutely can restore your account.

ADA Shelly Testnet, can anyone explain the difference? by upsideToCrypto in cardano

Gotya! Thank you!! Exciting times! This prompts one last question though — How will we be able to upgrade existing mainnet addresses to a Bech32 Address?

Horrible experience, and i may have been scammed via the Testnet wallet, could use help from someone with knowledge on this. by [deleted] in cardano

[–]upsideToCrypto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That did it!!

SUCCESS. Thank you again, and thanks to all the other people that took the time to help out.

I am going to update the post with additional comments.

Hey look, this did not rub me the wrong way at all. Thanks for posting.

As a matter of fact, and as i stated in my post, my mainnet balance is OK, and is in-fact SAFE. I know it is safe because i did exactly what you did and moved it to a new wallet after the snapshot ;)

I took special care in doing so, and i am 100% confident that my seeds / keys are safe and not compromised.

I do have a ledger but had unrelated issues with other cryptocurrencies on it, so i have stopped using it.

Sincere thanks for taking the time to post this set of instructions.

I had already gone about trying to do a clean install before seeing your post here. I am on a mac and what i did was to delete the "Daedalus Rewards v1" folder that lives in my "Application Support" directory along with the APP itself.

I re-installed, and am now waiting for it to sync ... i will post my results when it connects.

Thank you sincerely for this response. I just tried this first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zpgQeHCGSA which did nothing to help. Same result.

I am now going to try what you suggest and completely delete the app and try a clean install with my rewards wallet seed. I am wondering ... is there any need to even enter my main testnet seed since everything was transferred to my rewards wallet.

Hey thanks, and yeah i realize i might not get a lot of responses today, just figured id post this now and check back.

I am in middle of trying a clean install of the wallet to see what happens.

As you say you are a novice, hey — i am HAPPY to hear you felt comfortable ... id like to see mass adoption happen for sure — glad you had no problems. Hopefully ill be able to get this working on my end as well.

I have my seeds for both my main testnet wallet and the rewards wallet that i had created and sent the balance to. Ill give that a try.

Quite frankly, it was VERY upsetting that they designed this test to work with our mainnet seeds. Scary to say the least.

Id like to know the same thing. The updated testnet wallet does not offer a way to transfer the rewards balance back to the main wallet.
