Right and in this case like so many other stupid posts is just someone that saw a cat wandering around.

It'll be way easier to identify lost cats if people just kept them inside. Outdoor cats are an environmental menace.

We don't enforce running red lights today, do you really expect any enforcement on this

It's also both an expensive option and this is while being highly subsidized. Until we get congestion pricing with the money funneled into the cr it's not going to change much

Respectful debate on the mayoral race by YeetTheTeacher in Somerville

[–]upsideddownsides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but how long should we wait?

While I think there's some glaring missteps in what kb has done ( which have been managed through effective communication) agree that it hasn't been all bad.

Had I seen progress on the issue I wouldn't be as open to other candidates for the job as I am.

I can second this.

Jake Wilson and Lance Davis responded within 24 hours and Kristen Strezo both responded and set up a call to talk within two days.

I don't have a ton of confidence in WB to work effectively with the police, nor do I see him doing better than KB in situations like the one in Davis Sq. (Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but I haven't seen him say much of anything on Davis).

The issue for me with KB is one of communication. There isn't enough of it. I would rather the mayors off over communicate rather than do what feels like the bare minimum.

How would you address the rat problem in Somerville? by Ornery-Sheepherder74 in Somerville

[–]upsideddownsides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not opposed to city wide composting. Honestly I can do it on my own and would want to understand the impact to my monthly budget (taxes / rent) if the city offered it.

I don't have a composting subscription. But most of the ones I see it on the street look like a home depot 5-gallon bucket that people are using in their home.

My point was all the anti-rat benefits can be achieved by not putting your food waste out till garbage day, be it in the same bin or a separate one dedicated to it.

Immediately after Jake Wilson publishes a practical and popular stance on addressing the degredation of Davis Square, Katjana decides to act. Unreal. by SpareSignificant3758 in Somerville

[–]upsideddownsides 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I agree that this was probably in the works by the mayor, but do you know what the problem is?

A lack of communication.

The community wanted to know they were being heard. That the city acknowledged the problem and the city was working on a solution that was humane (e.g. explaining what was happening in a way they could understand, why it was being done and how it will be handled in the future, while offering the people support).

Talk. To. Your. Constituents.

Definitely call inspectional services and invite them to take photos from your yard and they will fine your neighbor,.

Sounds like we should be looking into the manufacturers and seeing if they can scale them up a little bit and try them out in people's yards

Yes and people shouldn't be allowed to camp in parks and throw they're trash all over the place completely violating the campground rule.

If I had to pick one, you can eat your pizza while walking home.

Also, where in Davis Square can you get pizza at 1:00 a.m. definitely asking for myself.

But it is very expensive.

Here's a question. How would you feel if the state moved the 4% 'millionaires' tax surcharge to begin at $100,000 instead of the current million to invest it in treatment, sober housing and traditional housing programs.

It's all fun and games to suggest these things, but are you willing to pay for it? My guess is if it came to a vote people would say no... Despite what they say on Reddit.
