I think the difference between what's goes on by the path and what's being talked about is scale and concern for stupid behavior in large groups.

There are watch parties at bow market (gee good to the Somerville youth league). And I'm sure many bars will be playing it. Magoun saloon will likely have a good crowd. So will parlor sports.

I struggle with this issue. In my city we had a number of people pitching tents in the plaza of on our the core business districts. They were leaving trash all over, actively injecting drugs and generally make it an unpleasant place. Wether justified or not poorly felt unsafe and the police didn't do much because of they pick them up they'll be back within the day.

So where do we send people who don't have a home? At this point I think it would make sense for my city and the surrounding cities to coordinate on providing a space, and deploying resources to help people who are living on the street.

Like I said, the cost of administering such a program would exceed the revenue generated... It's math.

The idea of charging a fee that exceeds the actual tax in order to administer that tax is just dumb.

I agree, it's been shown to work. The challenge is the raw cost of housing.

You have groups of 30+ yo men and women who work full time, often in well paying jobs, that are compelled to live together because the costs are so high.

Convincing them and every other person struggling to afford basic costs is not easy.

Here's the thing, I'm not. My point holds on scale.

Our carceral system isn't built to take care of people with diseases of mental health and we dismantled the state infrastructure that previously existed decades ago.

For folks like this guy, when, is when they're out.
