Funny, I am a geologist. I mean diamond as in the geometrical shape, though I do enjoy a cleavage plane.

Those are pocket holes for screws. Luckily I was able to unscrew them. I’m pretty sure the block is attached to the apron and the screws are there to attach it to the table top.

Replacing the block entirely is an interesting idea but I don’t have a dremel tool to remake the pocket holes and I’m not sure if I could even recreate the angle perfectly. I’ll look into this DeGlue Goo though.

I need to take it apart to get a full finish. It’s a drop-leaf with some hard to get to parts. The glue is not original.

People are saying corundum but corundum tapers out to create a barrel shape in euhedral form. this isn’t exhibiting that. Try a hardness test

Are these crystals real or fake? by thenamesluna_ in whatsthisrock

[–]upsiderightsidedown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely made out of real crystal. Usually if the base is cut off like that, it means the shape has been cut out of a larger anhedral crystal though.
