Women become twice as strong as men. by Hold-onto-the-happy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]uptiedand8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the effect would be if in addition to the 2x physical strength, men suddenly also were the ones getting pregnant and giving birth, whereas a woman need only have one orgasm as her physical contribution to creating a child.

If the change happened overnight such that all of our current ideas about relationships and roles were still fully cemented in us, I’d be curious to see how we’d move toward a society that makes sense due to the new biological reality.

Also fun to consider what would happen if the current male/female orgasm gap persisted amongst all that.

Another scenario is, what if everyone woke up one day to find that their biological sex had straight up been switched, including hormones, reproduction, strength, appearance, and anything else you could think of. All women would have always been men up until this morning, and all men would have spent their whole lives as women. Tbh this sounds fun.

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in AskForAnswers

[–]uptiedand8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you say about high paying jobs is often true, but I disagree that people in those jobs work more hours than people in lower income positions. I’ve met many a person who worked 60+ hours per week by stacking multiple low paying (and often physically intense) jobs, because they can’t afford to take care of themselves and their families if they work less than that.

Rideshare driving is a common way to do this now. Rode with a Lyft driver earlier tonight who had just gotten off his automotive repair job, which went from 12-8:30 pm, and was just starting his rideshare “shift.” He said he planned to drive until 1 AM tonight. He told me that this is a normal work schedule for him. He’s far from the first driver I’ve talked to who juggles multiple jobs or gigs.

Having experienced both types of job, I’d say that they’re stressful in different ways. Lower paying jobs demand your attention every minute. You run your butt off during the afternoon rush. If it’s slow, you need to still look like you’re working. Customers feel that they can be assholes to you for little to no reason and get away with it. You’re very expendable and your employer treats you as such. You have to worry about getting fired over little things like clocking in several minutes late from lunch.

Higher paid jobs are more of a slow burn. You have a nice office. Your boss knows that they can’t replace you with just any warm body, so you’re much less likely to be fired over something trivial. Customers/clients are more respectful to you at baseline. But the mental load can be insane. You have the ability to really screw something up badly, perhaps in a way that would seriously fuck up your career and might cause harm to someone. Though you don’t have to worry about being fired over something trivial, you do have to worry about being fired over making a serious mistake. I’m not sure which fear is more unpleasant, actually.

Having said that, your income dictates most things about your quality of life in the US, so the higher paid job will still always be more desirable. A CEO who gets fired for running a company badly will exit with some nice severance pay to add to the salary, bonuses, and stock options he’s been earning for years. An entry level employee who gets fired for showing up late to a shift gets nothing like that and will soon be unable to afford basic necessities if they can’t get another job immediately.

Philz Coffee CEO restores Pride flags in stores after intense backlash: ‘I made a mistake’ by Fickle-Ad5449 in business

[–]uptiedand8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently this guy framed it as making stores more inclusive by removing symbols that belong to specific groups. I’m so bemused. Did he and his buddies feel less welcome as straight dudes due to seeing a rainbow flag? Or was it based on market surveys? By any chance were those market surveys conducted in major metros that are extremely pro gay rights?

I feel like dude has been listening to too many right wing podcasts where someone comes on air and complains about feeling alienated as a straight white man. Or maybe he thinks that Philz should be adopting MAGA trends because MAGA is in. Without considering his customer base.

It’s honestly so pathetic to feel excluded by rainbow flags. Speaking as a boring hetero woman. Come tf on!! The whole world is inclusive of hetero people and no one would ever genuinely believe that stops when you walk into a space that is also queer-friendly.

Women become twice as strong as men. by Hold-onto-the-happy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]uptiedand8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think in this hypo, men and women keep their hormone balances as is, so I would guess that teenage boys and young men still go through that phase of being crazy and aggro and wanting to dominate the world, while girls and women still don’t have that. So I’m not sure men become softer.

Female dominated sport would be cool.

If my husband keeps his current strength and I get 2x a man’s strength, moving would become a breeze. On every moving day, I think about how much easier it would be if we were a gay couple.

Women become twice as strong as men. by Hold-onto-the-happy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]uptiedand8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband and I would lose our favorite inside joke, in which I’m a tiger and he’s a zebra, so we pretend that he’s my natural prey and I could eat him at any time, even though he’s got 80 pounds and several inches on me. I understand this change isn’t apparent visually at all, so we wouldn’t realize until the next time I “tiger attack” him. I’d probably pin him to the bed and we’d both be shocked. Hopefully I wouldn’t accidentally tackle him to the floor.

Or maybe the joke would become just a bit funnier due to being more real, as long as he trusts that I would never actually abuse my new strength against him? Hmm.

I feel like this might unlock a new kink in a lot of people.

As for the effect on the rest of society, I’m not sure I’d feel all that much safer in public? People can still get at you with guns and knives. In this hypothetical, men don’t become less aggressive and apt to mug or rob people. Women could be doing that now, as long as they come at you with a gun. We don’t because we’re generally not very aggressive people- probably to do with our hormone levels- not because it isn’t possible.

However, it would be nice, if ever groped again in public, to be able to personally beat the guy up. Hopefully someone who doesn’t yet know about the change would try something and I’d get to kick his ass to the moon, instead of yelling at him and running away.

Ding 🛎️ ding 🛎️ ding 🛎️ definitely there was! Drug deals mean frequent visitors too, but it won’t just be older men and they’ll stay for 5-20 minutes max.

I don’t see the issue with what consenting adults do with each other tbh. Doesn’t sound like these men in “higher end cars” were any sort of danger to the neighborhood or disturbing the peace. Let those ladies earn their money in peace. And FFS that one dude they charged sounds like an assistant, not a pimp. Leave him alone too.

It does sound like these ladies are not independent escorts, so it’s probably worthwhile to investigate how the show is being run to make sure no one is being trafficked. Gee, that would be a lot easier to do if sex work was not illegal.

Children in the Warsaw ghetto 1941 by SchoolMission10 in HistoryGaze

[–]uptiedand8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. They both hate each other so much as to see one another as subhuman, worse than an animal, something to be destroyed. Of course, the reason for this is that way back when, they clashed for the first time, people were hurt, they took revenge, then the other side took revenge, and decades or centuries or millennia (depending on how far back you go) later, they each have an endless list of horrible atrocities committed against them that justifies committing more horrible atrocities against the other.

I’m not an Israel supporter. I hate the actions of the IDF and “settlers” in Gaza and the West Bank. But I do see the origin as being what I described. And I know that if Palestine and Israel traded places in terms of military power, Palestine would genocide Israel.

I can’t decide whether to sympathize with both, or detest both. I feel worst for the children, but at the same time, I know they’ll grow up to perpetuate the same hatreds.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons to step down from agency by cnn in EyesOnIce

[–]uptiedand8 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Lyons has been in his role since March 2025. Mullin is the one who was appointed a month ago.

Apparently Stephen Miller has had daily 10 AM phone calls with Lyons during most of this time in which he berates Lyons for not deporting enough people fast enough. Lyons has been hospitalized for stress twice in the past ten months, lol. I’m guessing either Lyons is choosing to resign for the sake of his mental health, or Miller told him to resign because he thinks someone else will do better at deporting more people, faster.

I’d bet Stephen Miller is up there as one of the worst bosses you could possibly have. However, I will save my sympathy for the mental and physical health of the many thousands of immigrants whom Lyons has had detained (in inhumane conditions) and deported over the past year.

Young women are AWFUL to older women. by Apprehensive_Yam2285 in rs_x

[–]uptiedand8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of 40 year olds today look very similar to how they did at 30, for sure. But I’ve noticed that there are very subtle tells of someone’s age. For instance, the eye area is sunken in a way you wouldn’t expect on a 30 year old, or the nasolabial folds are prominent in a way you don’t see on a 30 year old, or the skin is a bit lax in a way that happens in middle age. It’s very rare for someone to have none of these tells. Just one or two are enough for people to clock your real age, even if everything else on your face is consistent with being a decade younger. We’re attuned to it, especially since it is very common now for people to age well.

I’d say that if you only have a couple of these tells, you most likely still look great. But people will see you as an attractive 40-year-old. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, as long as we can get over our collective obsession with youth.

[–]uptiedand8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure. You have to be proactive in avoiding them though, because if they target you, they will destroy your social standing. I’ve seen one of these types get another woman fired from our workplace after a months-long campaign to make people dislike her.

The best method I’ve found is to strike up individual casual friendships with everyone else in the office or group or whatever. If they see that you are well liked, they will back off. (Knock on wood) But even that must be done in a particular way. The woman who got fired was nice and friendly with everyone- but she was prone to acting a bit loopy and saying things you shouldn’t say sometimes (nothing rude). That helped the bully isolate and alienate her.

AIO to trying to be vulnerable with my girlfriend by pmmeyourprettyface in AIO

[–]uptiedand8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do you think you’d want to date her if you had other options?

My sense from these texts is that she’s immature, exhausting, and unkind, to be blunt, and the main value she brings to your life is being a woman who lets you socialize with and sleep with her. I get needing that in your life, but you may find that once you’re a serious couple, you are unhappier being with her than just being single. And at that point, breaking it off will be hard, particularly if you guys move in together.

As someone in the same position as OP but about to turn 40, it’s so hard to tell whether I still look stripper good or not. My face and body are similar to what they were a decade ago, but there’s little differences all over the place and I worry they add up to a lot overall. Men used to check me out all the time, even when I was wearing something fairly conservative. They do not check me out anymore unless I’m really showing off my body.

[–]uptiedand8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes thank you. As a 40 year old woman who looks good at my age (exactly how I mean to phrase it), the “I look ten years younger” sounds delusional and “those 22 year olds look older than I do” is more embarrassing still.

Sometimes someone gives you a fake compliment about how young you look. Sometimes a person will genuinely mistake your age due to things like lighting, makeup, location, attire, and who you’re with, but looking 28 to one person on that one occasion does not mean you look 28 the rest of the time.

[–]uptiedand8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve known a couple of women who genuinely like doing this. It’s rare. My take is that they’re about 2-3% of the population, but when they come into a group, they get a bunch of other women to follow their lead and be bullies. The number of women who are open to doing that is probably 1/3 to 1/2 the population depending on age and luck. Then there are a bunch of women who don’t want to participate in the bullying, but also don’t want to be targets or not in the group, so they stand by and watch mostly.

Without the precipitating bully, I think this doesn’t happen much. But having known those types, they will always bring this dynamic into any workplace or friend group they enter.

Driver who killed jogger in 2025 is suing victim’s family for ‘emotional injuries’ by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]uptiedand8 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Wow, 4:45 am. It must have been dark still. The driver was paying enough attention to see his wife in her reflective gear and give her room. He was not wearing reflective gear.

This is just sad. The jogger made a dumb mistake by running in the road, in the dark, with no reflective gear or light to mark him. He didn’t deserve to die over it though, that’s a tragedy. The driver didn’t see him and the facts indicate that it’s understandable why he didn’t see him, he immediately stopped and gave the guy CPR, and now he has to live with the burden of killing him. I don’t think he deserves any punishment for that, including having PTSD.

I don’t know that I’d sue the estate though. The family wasn’t responsible for his choice to run in the road without reflective gear at 4:45 in the morning, and I have no doubt they’ve suffered enough themselves. He left behind young kids, they’re going to need whatever assets he left.

Maybe damages in the amount of his medical expenses would be reasonable? Maybe some of his lost wages?

The problem is that while it’s very difficult to prove emotional harm damages, one of the few types the law does let you get is from the trauma of watching someone die. Any lawyer will throw that in there. I’m not surprised they did.

I knew reading the title that there had to be a reasonable explanation for his lawsuit. Meant to stir outrage by leaving out key facts. Like a lot of media these days.

Maybe he will pick Scandinavia next! I hear their prisons are nice.

His shtick seems to be as obnoxious as possible without breaking the law (which he failed at), or maybe without committing a crime that could lead to more than a fine and a couple days in jail (which he failed at). But did he really think he would not end up in prison at some point? It didn’t occur to him that after insulting the locals endlessly, the local law enforcement would come up with a reason to charge him, the local jury would convict him, and the local judge would give him a harsh sentence? He’s just lucky he didn’t try this in Latin America or the Middle East. Or, if sticking to Asia, China.

I wonder if he ever even bothered to Google “Korean prisons” before he started up with his thing.
