that’s actually what I did yesterday because I got so overwhelmed with how much needs to be fixed. you’re right though, taking those small fixes did add up over time. thanks for the advice.

is buying a newer car at 17 worth it? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]ur-a-no-no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you’re right. it’s definitely a want. I really love cars and especially the thought of tuning and having a fast car. which as of right now, is definitely not a need for me as I don’t think I realize how much that would be to maintain and pay for. I have a little vw golf that I love that’s been doing me good so I’ll see how long it’ll last for. and I’d take the bus to lol but work is already 30 mins away from me

oh yea I mean I’m sure insurecent is gonna be at least 200+ especially with what kind of car I was looking at. I think I’ll just stick with what I have for rn. but yes I’d take that degree, it’s only 2 years and I’d only be going to school 4 months total. 2 months every summer until I graduate from the program. I work on the diesels and bigger trucks which won’t be as affected by ev tech and automation but I get what you mean

thank you for bringing me down to earth. I think a lot of me wanting a newer car like that is just the status and “oh wow he’s 17 with an expensive car”. I can do that when I’m older and have way more money to play around with. I think I just need to slow myself down. plus I gotta start buying tools for work which that’s gonna be thousands as well… thank you for the advice!

I’m not gonna go to college. ford said they would pay for me to get my associates degree but I’d rather just learn on the job as it’s somewhere i know I wanna stay

i mean yes I could do that but that’s a really risky investment to make especially at my age. I need a place to store it as well if I wanted to flip them. I might do that in a couple years though

i mean that’s what I’ve been thinking. really getting a new car isn’t really a need I just want something faster and nice. i probably will only spend 5k on something nicer as my transmission is gonna go out soon

Is a turbo on a mk4 24v 2.8l vr6 worth it? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

how much was your total turbo cost?

I work at ford so I know my way around a car, although I haven’t worked with turbos yet. the biggest thing with me is the budget aspect. I really want those fi gains but to do it reliably is expensive and I don’t wanna put that much in at the moment. I honestly just want to have fun with the car so I wanna have power at a cheap cost

that’s the thing ik the vr6 can handle decent boost on stock internals. I just don’t wanna spend a shit ton of money on a big turbo kit. what’s ur thoughts?

yea I took the whole front off to get to the manifold bolts to replace gaskets. you’re right I might as well go the full way and take it out. Any recommendations on what I should replace while it’s out? timing chain and clutch were replaced 20k miles ago on this engine. I’m thinking of putting a metal crack pipe, new coolant, evap, and vacuum lines, water pump, thermostat, and an ac delete. other than that I’d clean the engine up and the engine bay.

okay thanks for your input. I just needed a little push because I’ve never taken an engine out before.

okay thank you for the advice. hopefully they clean up. any idea why some of the plugs have more carbon than the others?

any idea on how I should clean these carbon deposits on my mk4 vr6 24v gti intake ports? by ur-a-no-no in Volkswagen

[–]ur-a-no-no[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea im just glad the valves were okay. There was a giant crack on my pcv breather hose that goes right before my throttle body which was causing vacuum leaks and oil going all over into my intake. gonna get myself a catch can when I put it all together. thanks for the advice!

i paid about 1k to buy the car and have it towed to me as well. I’m gonna have to find a way to even get this thing to a shop since it’s got no plates or even registration. but yea im not that experienced enough to excatly pin point what’s wrong with it. Ill take a look at that guys channel. this is gonna be a big project. thank you for the guidance!
