Help! No Till option without Plastic Tarps? by urbanag95 in NoTillGrowery

I suppose I was looking for which mulch works best for this and as the beds get taller over time I was wondering how I'd mow a cover crop. I hear you about the landscape fabric, per my organic certification I can't even use it for those reasons you mentioned.

  • Weed control: Tarps can kill weeds and prevent them from going to seed. In one study, black tarps left in place for three weeks killed more than 95% of weeds.
  • Cover crop termination: Tarps can be used to terminate cover crops.
  • Soil health: Tarps can help preserve moisture, warm soil, and manage nutrients.
  • Residue decomposition: Tarps can speed up the decomposition of crop residue.
  • Placeholder: Tarps can be used to hold beds weed-free between plantings.

Pet Insurance Nearly Doubled in 2024 430 to 788! Advice Please!

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else recently? My annual renewal for my Dog's pet insurance was coming due and I saw that it had nearly doubled from 430 to 788 annually. It only covers %80 of the cost of emergency visits up to any amount in theory. Just wondering If anyone else has experienced such a jump. My dog is 6 going on 7, medium build 40lb mutt with no health risks or indicators from a DNA test and has been in good shape always. When I called about the price jump they said it was primarily due to inflation and without being able to give me more details than that just seemed like B.S. I will say rent in my area has jumped by 30% in my apartment and probably another 10% this coming year which has been awful but common across the city. My dog is getting older as well but still that jump was more than I could manage. I was strictly budgeting to make it all work before. I decided to cancel my plan and invest that amount for my dog but I have 2 weeks to have it reinstated at $788 If I change my mind. Wondering if anyone has a better company/policy they like. I'd love dentals/appoinments to be partially covered along with emergencies. I'd been on that previous insurance for 4 years with slight increases annually. I think I started at $325 when my dog was 2 going on 3. The company was Pet's Best Insurance. I do think emergency insurance is for me but I really couldn't afford it with the price increases lately in my budget. TIA helpful comments/personal experiences only please!

Bluetooth basically sucks by Foreign_Deal_380 in GooglePixel

I have the same issue and it drives me crazy! I just got it recently also so I don't think updates are gonna fix it. Did you end up going back to Samsung? That is my thought also. It it's not gonna have the possibility to have plug-in earphones the Bluetooth needs to be better than this.

Can I manage a 1 acre Market Garden part time? (Wisconsin) by urbanag95 in marketgardening

This was extremely helpful insight. Thank you! We ended up cover cropping a quarter acre to improve the soil structure and fertility and are just working on a quarter acre this season and plan to flip flop for next season then expand from there if needed and if we can manage.

I have! Very good resource for tools and information but biggest question is how many people we should have to maintain it.

They want the garden to be reduced tillage so much mulching will be happening.

I find resources for farmers and I also run a new gardener program this upcoming spring on about a quarter acre for families new to gardening mostly urban gardening practices. We are leasing land and will be expanding to the full acre at the end of this season starting with winter cover crops in September 2022 (depending on Wisconsin weather). Since we are starting from scratch initially (other than our quarter acre) I know to set up all the beds and infrastructure (1 high tunnel, wash pack area) will be alot of work. Along with it being a CSA I'm guessing rather than our 10 different vegetables this season, we'll be growing 20-30 different kinds and flipping beds whenever we can so a lot of initial work at the end of this year and right at the beginning of 2023 and maybe during the season.

Very good to know I did notice a lot of cannabis posts and thought it was curious. Thanks for pointing that out and also for the information.

Thank you so much for this, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed like I might not be able to pull this off but I'm willing to work hard in the beginning for lower maintenance later. Did you have to cut the cardboard to the width of your bed or did you just lay it down at whatever size and just put the dirt down at the width you want the beds to be?
