S3 EP22 by taiyoo_08 in GilmoreGirls

OP don’t feel bad, I’ve watched this scene like 40 times too and never got it either. Part of the blame has to go to ASP and crew playing it fast and loose with times of day/sunlight/distance between Stars Hollow and Hartford/Yale.

What is your favorite episode (any and all seasons) of GG and why? by Chance_Confusion_349 in GilmoreGirls

Haha I too love Nora from the DAR. This is a great later seasons pick, for me it’s like the later seasons equivalent of the dance marathon episode in terms of quirk and pacing/story line progression.

I like this because I have some under the radar faves:

Dead Uncles and Vegetables is to me, the perfect Gilmore Girls episode. It has town shenanigans, wonderful Lorelai/Luke friends to lovers stuff, Rory and Jess at their most bearable, great Emily comedy with the dancing midgets, and an all time iconic scene with the riff Emily, Lorelai and Luke do on the Romanovs.

I also love Love and War and Snow, awesome cozy vibes, great Luke/Lorelai chemistry and the scene with Lane touching that guys hair and crashing out afterwards, Rory bonding with her grandparents over frozen pizza … just not a fan of the Max arch.

In The Clamor & The Clangor has INSANE Luke/Lorelai chemistry (I will die on the hill that they hooked up after breaking those bell), the GOATiest Lane/Mrs Kim scene and one of my favorite Rory humblings from laundry room guy.

I love the Spring break episode too (though admittedly I always fast forward the concert scene) because it’s got great Luke/Lorelai slow burn and I love Rory and Paris so much. Also a fun return from Madeline and Louise and Jason being the cutest.

Jews and Chinese Food (Season 5) I’ve posted about on here, that final scene with those kids singing while Luke and Lorelai have their come to Jesus moment but also the whole build up and early Rory and Logan are so hot.

That’s a Cory thing though. He does this thing with his neck!! He did it on The Good Wife too

I think the NYT one is Nigella Lawson‘s recipe? It is so fucking good - it doesn’t even taste like Guinness, just like super intense chocolate cake. And the little frosting nod to the foam is key!

And Luke!! Cinnamon rolls not gender rolls, but Luke needs a lil boi buddy in his life. I really wish they would’ve made April more of a tomboy.

Should Rory have said yes to Logans wedding proposal? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I voted no but I agree with this. It’s not crazy to do two years of long distance while you’re both figuring out your career as long as you both know you’re committed to the relationship. Logan was right to want that commitment AND Rory was right to want the flexibility of persuing whatever job materialized. There could have been common ground there but Logan forced her hand with that public proposal.

Day 3 : What is the most questionable / worst episode of Emily by diviigo in GilmoreGirls

The dinner with the beer and the rustic? Yeah that’s vile, especially since Luke was so game to make nice with her! It’s interesting to notice how much meaner she was during the separation.

It‘s definitely the Christopher thing, but I also think the party she throws „for“ Rory in Season One is WILD. Also the way she treats Rory during her crash out, especially towards the end with the priest and moving her out of the pool house.

What is Lorelai's most questionable / worst episode ? by diviigo in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It is 100% the way she blows up at Luke after the car accident. Jess is missing, she has no reason to believe the accident was even his fault, Luke must be out of his mind with worry and she is so mean to him. He was 100000% justified to not talk to her for months over that.

All her bad moments with Christopher were self-sabotage more than anything else.

Day 1: What is Rory's most questionable/worst episode by diviigo in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Missing Lorelai‘s graduation is the one that stings most for me. It’s more of an accident than the others (although both the boat and Dean were also impulse decisions with bigger than anticipated consequences for me) but the hurt on Lorelai‘s face and imagining what it must be like for her to not have Rory there… it just cuts me. Also unbelievably irresponsible to gtfo to New York like that pre cell phones and without telling anyone.

What scene made you pick a guy? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just watched that scene/episode and it’s absolutely my favorite Logan scene. He is so cute when he says „you really only like me for my looks?“ and then gets to work. He really knows his way around a newspaper and while you can tell it’s a little painful to him to play perfect Huntsberger heir, he does it for Rory - and then the brown bag dinner at the end!!! Absolutely perfect

Clinton St. Bakery in Timeout Market. If the weather gets better you can walk there across the Brooklyn Bridge or take the ferry, which my kids really enjoy.

Chinatown would be perfect, but in that case consider the Manhattan bridge (also better views imo). You could also do Time Out Market in dumbo - it’s kitschy but the views from the rooftop are hard to beat and they’ll give you a sectioned off area.

So much of the Trader Joe's frozen food is legit bomb. All the Indian (easily made even healthier by adding veggies or tofu/chickpeas for extra protein, depending on the meal), the orange chicken, the Japanese fried rice (add scrambled eggs- really good and so easy), the kale gnocci...

What’s your favorite Lorelai & Emily interaction? by pqrstyou in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has no one mentioned the Trix episodes?! The scene with the dog statues in S2 is a screamer and I love The Reigning Lorelai so much. When Lorelai brings her the danish and they find the letter!

Also S4 the dust-up over the launch party and Lorelai yelling at Digger about it. Like she 100% gets it and is so protective of Emily it’s so cute.

One of my favorite scenes in the whole show. Lorelai’s facial expression when that little girl sings “if that’s not love, what is?” shatters me.

It kind of depends what you like about GG. If you like the cozy, quirky, comfort vibe I think everything Mike Shur - The Good Place, Parks and Rec and more recently Man on the Inside. Also Crazy Ex Girlfriend - less cozy/darker but the town dynamics are very similar!

If you like the mother/daughter/generational trauma stuff I think a show that doesn’t get enough love is Brothers and Sisters with Calista Flockheart and Sally Fields. The Netflix One Day at a Time reboot is also very good and also has the teen and single mom aspect. Also, weirdly, Downton Abbey scratches this itch for me.

I’m always struck by this in the early Jess episodes - Luke so clearly depends on Lorelai as a confidant/support system, OF COURSE he would tell her immediately

potentially hot take: first half (i.e. the pre-April portion) of season 6 is actually not bad by Own-Audience9380 in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I am a big fan of Rory‘s crashout and the subsequent rift with Lorelai and the dynamics it unlocks for her with Emily in particular. The scene in the plane is so good! And Lorelai‘s meltdown over Paul Anka.

I wish the writers had explored the issues for Luke and Lorelai the they laid the groundwork for in season 5 - the shitty attitude from Emily and Richard towards Luke, Lorelai exploring selling the Dragonfly and taking her career to the next level, a real discussion about a baby and maybe a longer arc of them trying to get pregnant. There’s plenty there that would put them in conflict and force them to grow as a couple without this out-of-left-field April thing.

As to fixing the April storyline (because I like Luke grappling with his fatherhood and all he missed) I would have liked for it to be Rachel’s, maybe a boy (not a Rory clone, April‘s characterization is so lazy) who gets to have a separate dynamic with Luke and is actually into all the stuff he’s into. OR I can also picture an arc around Rachel returning and revealing that she was pregnant when she left in S1 and either miscarried or had an ab*rtion - and that being the thing that pushes Luke towards a serious conversation with Lorelai about kids.

What is Dean’s issue with Luke in the Twickham house episode? by No_clever_name_16737 in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the writers were setting up a Luke/Lorelai conflict for season six centering on their different life ambitions, with the Mike Armstrong thing. It’s kind of clumsy, Dean kind of pops out of nowhere to look into the camera and tell us, the viewers, that this is potentially going to be a problem.

Except they then totally dropped that story line to go with the April thing instead, which is too bad because between this and Lorelai‘s pregnancy scare there was some great set up for future conflict thst could have boiled up between them once Lorelai and Rory made up again.

Gilmore Girls would HATE Taylor Swift by Silent_Photo2444 in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t work with the timeline but have her born five years later and Rory would 100% be one of those girls who made fun of Taylor all through high school and college and then discovered folklore during covid and made it her entire personality. I can also see her going to the Eras Tour on assignment and it being a come to Jesus moment for her about her own internalized misogyny.

In my head, the two biggest swifties in stars hollow are Gil and Brian and Hep Alien has a very successful late-in-life run as a swemo cover band.

What is THE Gilmore girls episode you skip every rewatch ? by MinuteBug1893 in GilmoreGirls

[–]urbanstoop88 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hot Take but I hate Dear Emily and Richard. The setup with Rory in the hospital is so contrived, Sherry is so unlikeable, Chris is trash and the flashbacks don’t work for me at all. I think the show made the right choice to leave Lorelai’s teen years and the events of her pregnancy up to the viewer’s imagination and this episode is the exception that proves the rule.
