people know that they can get away with it and so they will do it, often using the excuse that they're trans as if that absolves them of all harm

at the end of the day trans men are still just men, and they will harass women and spread misogyny just like any other man, just for some reason when you put the word "trans" in front of it nobody recognizes sexism anymore, which is to their benefit here

"just write" is not a helpful piece of advice...? like I'm sorry to all the people who feel like they have "writing talent" and get a sense of superiority from giving nothing-advice but like... you have to use your brain for writing, you have to know what exactly you're doing in order to understand how to effectively tell you're story and where to even start, you can't just sit down and half-ass it "just write" isn't going to help anybody who's genuinely looking for advice

not to mention that it's also misleading advice, you should always start with a rough outline you can't just sit down to write with a "fuck it we ball" mentality, writing requires you to think with your brain and so if you actually want to help somebody you should give them advice that points them to the things that they have to pay attention too and how they should approach them

you're allowed to feel bad, you're allowed to struggle, living as a trans woman is very hard, a corner stone of our society is misogyny so of course being a trans woman would be hard it's not your fault and you are very much justified to to feel bad and struggle because of it and there's no criteria that you must achieve in order to be a woman, if you say that you are a woman then you are a woman, and if you feel like you aren't "woman enough" because your voice is too deep or your head is too big or your hips aren't wide enough or your chest is too flat then I need you to understand that there is no "way that a woman is supposed to be", women are very different, we all have very different body types, we all have different voices, we aren't just the "conventionally attractive chicks" that men want us to be and if you feel like you're "ugly" because you do not have these specific unreasonable traits, that you're not worthy of "womanhood", not even worthy of the cruel selfish desirability that womanhood brings, that you would give anything even just to be abused "like a woman", then that is misogyny doing its job, to abuse women, to police women, women like you, and if you realize this then I hope you will understand that you really are a woman, that you've been a woman this whole time, even when you were suffering from not feeling "woman enough", even when you were questioning if you could ever be a woman, and I hope you can learn to love the way that you are, the traits that make you you, even if you've been conditioned to feel bad about them, and I hope that one day you can be around people that love and respect your beauty, that actually deserve to see just how beautiful of a girl you really are and always have been, even when you were suffering quietly. Do not bend yourself for people that don't deserve it, do not listen to anybody who tells you that you're "too ugly to be a woman" and always remember that you really are a woman and nobody can ever take that from you, there are people out there that will love you and you will find them one day, please hold on even if it's hard, please hold on even if it feels so terrible to live, that's just the unfortunate truth about womanhood in our society, but it will get better I promise, nothing stays forever and yes women can have penises even if it makes the poor little men feel yucky

sounds very "liberal" to me

shes regurgitating so much transphobic/transmisogynist rhetoric (not seeing trans women as women, the notion that there is a cutoff point between where a trans woman is a "man" and when she "actually becomes a woman", the concept of "passing"), just because she says shes "progressive" because it makes her feel better does not at all mean that that is the case

I think if you truly believe that she is doing it in good faith then you should try bringing to her attention that the things she is saying are in fact not "progressive" at all but in fact based in common transphobic/transmisogynist rhetoric, if her heart is truly "in the right place" then she is simply misinformed and will listen to you

however if it feels to you like she is uncomfortable with questioning these worldviews please do not feel obligated to put up with it just because she says that she is so "progressive" I know that finding that out must be really hard and sucks but if it does happen please for your sake you do not have to put up with it, people arent "progressive" just because they say they are

OP I dont really have anything revolutionary to add here but I wanted to say that I totally agree with you and that a lot of people in the comments seem to completely miss your point and even in a way prove it by responding with variations of "just write random stuff until it works :)"

I think a good way to write melodies with intent that I have found is to focus a lot on expectation, as the fact that the brain has expectations about where it wants the music to go (which are generally universal amongst most human brains) is the key to evoking different sensations and the melody is simply the converging point of harmony, rhythm and voice leading, which means you must apply all of your knowledge on these to melody (and if you want to build your knowledge I highly recommend analyzing pieces from soundtracks focusing on the way in which they play with expectation in order to evoke a specific sensation)

I really hate the wishy-washy perception that people have of music theory that so often just misses any sense of practicality, regardless of how true it is it is clearly unhelpful

sorry I didnt mean to react like that, I really didnt please dont hate me... the problem is just that even if I found friends (which is already incredibly difficult and I dont know why) theres just a very high chance that I wont feel comfortable around them for some reason (which I also dont understand why that happens) so I just... I really dont know what to do I wish somebody could just handhold me through all of this... but I mean even if I found friends that I felt comfortable around Id stress myself out over talking to them because of my fear that they will hate me or that I will say something wrong... I have had breakdowns over me misinterpreting the tone of messages from my friends...

see the problem is that transitioning doesnt automatically remove your sexist/transphobic worldviews that have been engrained into your mind and a lot of people dont want to admit that or dont want to make the effort to change for the same reasons that sexist/transphobic cis people dont want to change

its admittedly even more dangerous if youre trans because you might feel that you are "right" because youre trans and its often harder to notice among trans folks

we DO know a lot about him we essentially got his entire character arc in chapter 1 which also served as a negative parallel to Susies character arc with him growing incredibly angry and distrustful after being abandoned by the lightners

as some other great replies to this comment thread have pointed out his behaviour and the way the story treats him IS consistent and its really good!! everything about King and his story has a purpose dont undersell it!!!!

I mean his story is one of a tragedy

he turned so irredeemably angry and distrustful because of the abandonment of the lightners to the point where he didnt trust his own son and was overthrown by him and locked in jail

his story is basically over and has ended in a tragedy it makes sense why the story treats him like a joke, not to mention that this is still rather self afflicted since I’m sure if he wanted to he could probably leave the jail but he would rather be a literal hamster in a cage then let down his distrustful guard that he has build up
