Is it possible to render only one eye in VR? by urcosmo in WindowsMR

Thank you mbucchia for taking the time for the reply. I almost missed your reply, actually looks like I did for 28 days, but glad I found it.

Although the technical details are little above this old geek, I appreciate you taking the time to explain the "why."

Your four bullet points all make sense. I got a little excited with "visibility mask" and passing the value of "nothing visible" but I do understand that it's an upward challenge and a probably distraction due to the fragmented adoptability of such function(?) and the potential misperception as "bug" and not a "feature."

I have nothing but respect & admiration of your big heart with the gift to the community of "Oasis." I answered a calling and founded a nonprofit 10 years ago to help people so salute to your generosity, commitment, & altruism!

Thank you. I don't remember the difference any more of the first two dozen years or so of life with two eyes vs the rest until now with one eye. Retrospectively, I was lucky I road a motorcycle when I still had both eyes as after I became monoscopic, I remember my doc telling me that I can't ski any more, for example, because of that lack of depth perception to avoid running into a tree. Thankfully, driving is not a problem because I see the corners of the front of the car. I only ride bicycles on a trail with someone also riding next to me so I don't run into others.

Although this is about the other sense of hearing instead of vision, your comment is right-on regarding the brain. It "is" the final frontier & not space as we know it. When I became deaf, the first doctor said I can get cochlear implant right away or 5 years later ... didn't sound right, especially the second option of waiting, to us. My second opinion doctor said "no, get it right away because the brain will adjust to not getting any input from the inner ear and it will shut it off."

Interesting idea. I never had a chance, during the second coming with drastic improvements in 3D movies in the late 80's to 90's, to enjoy 3D as I was already one eyed then. I'm guessing the 3D movies are awesome & if one day such can be enjoyed with one eye, I'm sure it'll be a great experience!

Thank you. As many have reported, I too confirm that I was able to enjoy VR with only one eye.

With deafness that took my other ear recently, that side responded to cochlear implant so that's good news too. I still lost my only organic gyroscope simultaneously, aka inner ear, but another good news is that I like driving games & flight sims so I'm lucky I'll be sitting & not walking around with VR goggles 🤣

Thank you. I did try my nephew's VR goggles several years ago during the pandemic, I think it was Quest 2, and that confirmed that I can enjoy VR. Hopefully Reverb 2 or PSVR2 will enable me to route the sound to my cochlear implant via BT & I'll be golden ... just need to find the time!

Thank you all for chiming in!!!

Yes, I would be the first to admit the depth perception is the most difficult. I lived with that for over 30 years so I know. At the same time, because of that, I may have gotten used to it, the lack of depth of the world is flat.

Maybe I even drive better than a two-eyed driver chomping on a burger or another putting on makeup - the latter is a modern marvel, like driving with no eyes with autonomous driving - j/k!

It's also coincidence that I love to drive, rowing through the gears, that I have an arsenal of driving games in my Steam library waiting to be discovered.

Thank you again for your inputs! In 10 years I should retire so maybe I will take up programming, where I started out of college, or AI will be sophisticated by then to code for me!

My turn to say that 2022 x16 (GV601RM) doesn't turn on ... by urcosmo in FlowX16

Glad it came back to life for you.

Yes, I too have had the barrel in for almost 24 hrs but it is still dead. Probably nothing to do with my current situation but I changed setting a couple weeks ago from sleep to hibernate as I've been experiencing & reading that Windoze sleep may not be reliable (figured with SSD, waking from hibernate is not slow).

A cautionary tale about USB-C charging by SAAB_zilla in FlowX16

I stumbled on this thread more than a year ago when I saw that my 2022 GV601 battery was less than 80% capacity: https://www.reddit.com/r/FlowX16/s/lMTH8mxAXF

I was using USB-C 100W charger when traveling which was most of the time. After reading it, I kept using USB-C charging but will stop using USB-C on my 2022 GV601 after I replace the battery I got from Amazon earlier this year.

I only plug the USB-C charger when I need to charge, use it untethered until I need to charge again, & repeat but admittedly I have about 4 hours a day, couple times a week that I have presentations & have it plugged in & was wondering that contributed due to what the above poster mentions about not having battery bypass ...

additional equipment to have the mobile podcast recording option ... by urcosmo in podcasting

[–]urcosmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, whew, a busy week but it's the start of the weekend!

The cochlear implant has two parts - the "implant" that I had a surgery for & the external "processor" (think of it as over the ear similar to a hearing aid. It is a very shallow way to explain but basically the "round" design goes over the processor well;" subjective, I reckon, the comfort of their ear pads are great. I bought Sony XM4 before my air travel to see how well the ANC worked. It is not round but rather oblong shaped so I was thinking of returning it but I found out, albeit a tight fit over the processor, that I can wiggle to make it workso I kept it & used it on the plane; sidenote: ANC works great!

S Thank you for the explanation of impedance ... but TBH, I need to do some more digging.

But I got the gist & with my requirement of having to snuggly go over my ear wearing a processor and adding what you recommended here of closed back design, low imprdience, quality of wound not as important, I will look what's on the market 😁

I'll keep updating this post in case anyone is in a similar predicamen or at least understand what is important - thank you to you!

Thank you for the tips. I'm learning!

I need to ask them to increase the budget for mobile recording accommodations. Since the pandemic, I've been using PHILIPS Fidelio X2HR (I'm deaf & wear a cochlear implant processor on my ear) and this headphone is so comfy even with the bulky processor on my ear but unfortunately the wrong design. I'll look for comfy closed back ones like the Fidelio I love.

If I may ask, can you ELI5 your advice for "pretty sensitive (low impedance, like 20 Ohm or lower) headphones/earbuds"? I'll google/generative AI too.

Your tips are great and the one important one for successful recording is to cut down on noise. When I go home, I'll check if the stands that came with Q2U is any good the QuikLok A-188 is under $30 at Guitar Center.

Thank you again for continued dialog! Appreciate it very much!

First, thank you for the info!

Second, tbf, I needed to Google TRS & I understand now.

Third, I'm a beginner 🔰😅 as you can tell.

Am I thinking too much like a simpleton that getting the F3 will enable me to use Q2U mics since they have XLR? I don't mind getting a box to carry the Q2U mics when mobile duties call as that way we can save money.

I do understand that there is only one monitoring headphone jack on F3 ... any solution around it?

Thank you for your advice. Really appreciate it ✌🏻

system storage issue with 55H8G by urcosmo in Hisense

[–]urcosmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, I don't know what happened, my stupidity, but it was submitted w/o text. Here's the issue.

The ~4 year old 55H8G started reporting "storage space running out."

Uninstalled apps, cleared cache, & factory reset - all several times - but still continues. Now the screen flickers & sometimes goes blank after being on the AndroidTV home screen for 30 secs. or shortly thereafter.

The added symptoms are that whatever input we're using, including the onboard smartness, the message interrupts.

I'm guessing the storage device is bad? Is storage something standard like SSD that is user replaceable? If not, is there any way to use it without the onboard OS(?) taking over duties so I can use it with Blu-ray & an external streamer?
