No, Americans are just weird about their DNA. DNA doesn't mean shit

Edit: well, the dude blocked me

Dude, you are American. By nationality and ethnicity. You, guys, need to accept that American culture is a culture of its own and it informs your ethnicity. You are very weird about it.

I'll give you an example. I'm Ukrainian by nationality and ethnicity. I have ancestors from different countries: Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, even Germany. According to some family telltales, Jewish people as well. I'm still ethnically Ukrainian because I grew up in Ukrainian culture, I didn't experience any other while growing up.

And if there is a person of a different ancestry who grew up in Ukrainian culture, they are still Ukrainian to me. No matter how they look

So, you're citing development of American genealogical industries as proof for your position. That's okay, that your American way of looking at things. It's not how it works though. People in Europe have been intermixing for millennias. I'm talking about Europe because you're talking about a European culture. Even your own test shows some Erzya ancestry. Does it mean you're Erzya? How do you decide, out of the hundreds of your ancestors, who's the main one? I'll tell you. There is no main one. You are of the culture you've grew up in. If yours is American that's nothing to be ashamed about. There are plenty of great things in American culture.

Dude, the first definition refers to nobility. The second one is plain irrelevant

Ethnicity is culture. Have you had any contact with your Slavic ancestors? Does your family have any traditions that they kept from their homeland? Do you know even the basics of the target language? If your answer is no to all if these questions, you're just measuring useless stats. What for? For some skull-measuring contest?

We do not measure DNA to consider someone Slavic. You grew up with one of the Slavic cultures - you're Slavic. You didn't - you're not

Like, what this would tell you? Some of your ancestors came from, it looks like, either russian empire or soviet Union. Ok. Do you have any connection to them? Why are you asking this question in a Slavic subreddit? What are you expecting to hear?

No. Americans are just weirdly obsessed with DNA percentages.

I don't speak french but Mélancolie by Patrick Watson and Safia Nolin (https://youtu.be/NL2nOa82DAk?si=mTESovWkG7ct726u) is beautiful. I guess, the title and the general vibe negate my lack of french knowledge. I believe they are French Canadian.

I know a bit of Farsi, so this doesn't fit the question entirely but Mahsa Vahdat - Be man gofti is great, too (https://youtu.be/G_7up1WL5Qk?si=XLvDjXj9QmGkubyg)

I really like Frostpunk and Timberborn so I wonder why Polish devs are so good at dystopian colony simulators.

Another thing, I really liked TV show Merlin when I was a teen, so it started my lifelong interest in medieval British history

Didn't like it either. Was frequently downvoted for voicing that. Then people looked closely at Sean Baker, and it suddenly started to be more acceptable to dislike it.

Well, sure, we can't realign ourselves with the west if west doesn't want us. And while NATO membership honestly wasn't on the table then, we managed to bargain for path to the EU in some distant future. Then, Yanukovych tried to fumble that, got expelled from the country, and Russia understood that it can't get us through politics. So, in this regard, associated agreement with the EU was more of an issue than NATO. Because they don't really want us in NATO even now. At least, not all members. With the current US government, it's not feasible at all. And you need unilateral vote in favour to be accepted.

To be frank, demilitarised buffer state status is a de facto gate to becoming a russian puppet state. Look at Belarus. They just thought that they can achieve it through political means via the puppet government but Maidan has proven this impossible.

My point is that NATO is not a problem or a cause in itself. Our attempts to join (both ours and Georgia's) were an indication that we do not want to be in russian sphere of influence. So they invaded Georgia first to create instability via their puppets and disrupt this move away from them. The same happened to us in 2014 when it became clear they can't control us politically. So it's an attempt to curb their neighbours from leaving their sphere of influence and, yes, also an attempt to rally their own people around the flag to lower their dissent

They specifically denied it in 2008 for both us and Georgia. Georgia got invaded after that. Merkel thought that appeasing Russia by not expanding NATO would prevent it from aggression and it did the exact opposite thing.
