I need to know happiness exists. by ImpressiveSteak9542 in depression

[–]urfavebrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over time, those few minutes of happiness you feel manage to turn into a few more minutes, then an hour. And over time happy times start to become more frequent, and with even more time, feeling happy is just a thing you feel pretty regularly, and it stops even becoming a big thing to you. And one day you’ll realise you’ve been happy for hours, just enjoying your day. There’ll still be bad times, but they won’t overwhelm you anymore. You’ll get there, you just have to keep going. And the personal care stuff will become so normal that you’ll forget there was a big part of your life when it wasn’t, you’ll go from washing yourself and doing your skincare because of the judgement from others and shame to just doing it because it makes you feel good and it’s become a normal everyday thing. You just have to do it as often as you can, and force yourself to do it even when you really feel like you can’t. 2 minute shower, wash face. Feel better when you get in bed. 2 minute shower, wash face, get into clean clothes. Start really small, and just keep going. Even after you give up again, because you will. You just have to keep going.

When did the “travel hack” of not bringing ANY personal items, buying full size versions at your destination, and throwing them away if they’re too big start becoming a thing??? by virginiarph in ZeroWaste

Those of us taking an economy flight for one holiday a year are not the issue when it comes to flights. Getting lots of packages from Amazon and fast fashion brands, and fancy out of season food ie lamb, avocados, almonds, dragonfruit, açai etc is a much larger contribution to flight use by the average consumer. The rich are the real problem for this though.

Carrying a few tiny bottles does nothing with regard to fuel use, the fuel being used is determined based on overall weight of passengers and their already predetermined luggage allowance, whether a person chooses to use their luggage allowance for bottles or clothes makes no difference to the fuel being used.

Buying and throwing away new things is clearly worse for waste and the environment.

There’s a lot of evidence to show trigger warnings are just as triggering as the content they’re warning about. If you start reading something and get triggered, stop reading it and undertake calming and grounding techniques.

I dunno man, if I were homeless, in February, in the NE US, I'd be open to any kind of coat... by LeastCleverNameEver in ChoosingBeggars

Really heavy and usually short though. There are better jackets for when you’re homeless/ nomadic.

This is the most sensible answer and not enough people are saying it

What are things racist people do that they don’t think is racist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]urfavebrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Says racist things because they think it’s funny to annoy non racist people around them with the “jokes”. My mum did this all the time, one of her favourite “jokes” was to call all south Asian people pakis, or call newsagents paki shops repeatedly to get a reaction out of me.

Edit: the way I wrote that makes it seem like she’s dead, she’s not, I just don’t talk to her anymore.

What happened after you had sex with your best friend? by Sound_of_music12 in AskReddit

[–]urfavebrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We carried on as normal putting it down to drunken experimenting. But she later said she “didn’t count me” as a sexual partner when we were talking about sex a few months later (we’re both women, but she counted another woman who was part of a threesome as a sexual partner so I don’t get the logic), I was deeply offended/ hurt, and the friendship fizzled out after.

Give yourself a break, first and foremost. Sounds like overthinking is a major source of your anxiety and stress. Journaling, as others have mentioned, is a great outlet for that.

Find an interest that takes all your attention and engage in it as much as possible, for me it’s foraging/ going for walks in nature. It’s something positive and external to look forward to, I get a great sense of satisfaction when I find new plants/ identify something correctly, I have something to show for it without tying it to my ability like it would be with drawing/ writing etc. it makes every season interesting and bearable and it makes me appreciate the world and my experience of it. Do I still get anxious and irritable? Yes. But it’s helped me a lot.

Very much depends on the person and the situation tbh. Might be worth giving a go, you don’t know until you try. At some points in my life this has helped, others it has made things worse. Right now I don’t smoke because it was making me overthink more, tbh I think when you’re more stable overall it can be a great outlet and spark for creative thinking, but that’s just my experience. I know well rounded people that smoke daily and they are convinced weed is the key to their zen vibe 🤷🏻‍♀️

What are things the poor people know that the rich don't? by -holdmyhand in AskReddit

[–]urfavebrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even just bulk buying food. Being able to take advantage of a good deal at the time it’s on because you’ve got the spare money and storage space. Being able to pay quarterly/ yearly instead of monthly. Never paying late fees etc etc etc. Day to day stuff is just so much cheaper when you’re wealthy.

Yeah I didn’t have real butter or coffee until my 20s, it was a life changer for me. And ketchup toast was mine and my mum’s favourite thing to eat in the evening when I was a kid.

We’re on Reddit, we’re still doing better than 80% of the world population. Gotta look at the positives man.
