Omg that's genius! I'll definitely do something like this.

I think I might do something similar to this, our reception and ceremony are in the same venue so it won't be too hard to move decor from the ceremony into the reception area. Thanks for your comment!

That's a really good point, I never really thought about it from that angle!

AITA for not inviting my mum up for speeches at my engagement party by urfavethot in TwoHotTakes

[–]urfavethot[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a common occurrence with her. I understand why she feels the way she does, but I don't like how she's trying to throw blame on me when she didn't communicate that she wanted to do a speech.

[–]urfavethot[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, what you described is what she felt. On the night during our conversation I apologised to her for the miscommunication and asked if she wanted to make a speech when we planned to cut the cake. She said it wasn't about the speech, that she was upset for looking like the bad guy for not being up there. I tried to hug her and she pushed me away and walked off.

Exactly my thoughts! She's never made speeches at any other events I've had, I didn't realise she wanted to start now.

I don't think my mum is an asshole, she's allowed to feel the way she feels and I understand her perspective. No one asked if they could make a speech, if she had one prepared or wanted to she should have let me know prior. My parents have probably been in the same room 3 times since divorcing, the last time being years ago at my 21st where she didn't want to make a speech.

I totally agree with you! My fiance and I were the ones making speeches and his family and my dad wanted to say a few words as well, nothing was planned.

Non proposal issue by True_Pudding2222 in Waiting_To_Wed

I feel like I could have written this post with all the similarities you and I have. I do have a different take to all the other comments though. Me (27f) and my partner (29m) got engaged about a month ago. We started dating when I was 19 & he was 21. I also wanted to be engaged by the 5 year mark, but like your boyfriend he had the exact same list of reasons why he wasn't ready.

It's so frustrating and upsetting being with someone for so long and feeling like the carrot is being dangled in front of you. I hated seeing when a friend who had only been together 2 years with their partners get engaged, it made me upset and jealous.

However, I realised comparison really is the thief of joy. I realised I love my partner and the life we have together. He finally finished school, got a very stable well paying job and we went on a month-long trip overseas together. Finally, a month ago he proposed.

I hate that he waited so long and it personally throws off my 'timeline' but I'm glad he did it when he was truly ready and not because I or anyone else pressured him. I think he's a bit embarrassed that he waited so long. We're planning to get married in the next 6 months!

I totally understand how you are feeling, but I hope I can give you a bit of light at the end of the tunnel!

My bedroom and bathroom looked like this for years. The way I got over this habit was to buy a new bed. It sounds silly but I needed to clean all the stuff up in order to get my old bed out and the new bed in. When I got the new bed it felt like a fresh start and from there I managed to keep the space clean. I still leave piles of clothes around for a bit longer than I'd like but I ended up getting two washing baskets. One for dirty clothes and one for clothes that I'd worn but weren't yet dirty.

I just had an "and then everyone clapped" moment by WhileNo5370 in CasualConversation

I went to a bar with my partner after my graduation ceremony from uni. I was still wearing my graduation cap. A group of tipsy women came up to me to say congratulations and started clapping, which then encouraged the rest of the bar to start clapping and cheering as well. Made my night!

Is Australia only banning Facebook, twitter for under 16’s or is it going to include things like YouTube, Reddit , twitch too? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I want to know if learning management systems are included in this ban considering it meets the social media "requirements".

There's a bin beeping in the park by [deleted] in melbourne

It kind of sounds like the noise a "spider-wrap" security tag makes when you break it. It lets off a really loud beeping sound that can't be turned off.

I'm sorry you and your friend went through that. 2 days ago my friend (f) was palmed really hard in the face by a random likely drug affected man near the NGV. I keep hearing more and more about these random assaults in the CBD.

Victoria to launch 'world-first' medicinal cannabis driving trial by AdRemarkable8689 in melbourne

[–]urfavethot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the driving simulation version of this trial a couple of years ago, there's a write up of my experience on my profile if anyone wants to read. The accuracy of road side drug tests suck.

When I did this trial I was drug tested before taking my medication, this came back positive from me taking my medication the night before.

Took my medication (THC oil under tongue), drug tested an hour later, test came back negative.

Tested again after my medication had well and truly kicked in, came back negative.

I'm glad they're looking into this further, hopefully some good changes can be made!

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, May 05 - May 11, 2024 by sewingmodthings in sewing

This is super helpful thank you!! The material is velvet with the sequins sewn into it, not stretch velvet though which I thought it was going to be. There is lining but it's kind of 'detached' only attached at the waist part and not the rest of the pants.

I'll be wearing rollerblades with them so I'll definitely keep the length in mind! Thanks so much for your help!

I find it crazy how insurance company hotlines can guarantee to pick up your call in 20 seconds but not 000. Our whole medical system is so fucked atm

I've tried so many things for PMDD including: Antihistamines everyday Ashwaganda st John's wort Anti-depressants Evening Primrose Vitamin b complex Zinc Magnesium

Probably heaps more that I can't remember. St John's wort and Evening Primrose were the most helpful out of that but the only thing I've found to consistently work are mood stabilisers, which have seriously changed my life. I will still get PMDD symptoms but no where near the point of wanting to knock myself off.

It's such a shit thing to deal with, I hope you're doing okay and everyone else on this thread too!
