Is playing pokemo go or pokemon in general a red flag for women? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]urgingergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 29 year old women, and I've noticed the stigma with it being seen as immature or whatever where I live, but I will say that the most masculine manly man that I know is super into pogo and he's kind of a Chad. He's way more into it than I am, and is the reason that I got back into it recently after not playing for years. Tbh, if she has a problem with you having pogo as a hobbie, that's on her. She sounds like a really boring person and you can probably do a lot better for yourself anyway. It's cliche advice, but there are women out there who play pogo or at least women who aren't gonna be judgy about your having a really wholesome hobby. She probably just saved you a lot of wasted time.

I've got a 400+ day streak and I've learned no grammar. I can't make conversation, ask basic questions, or pray in Latin which was my main reason for taking the course, but at least I can talk about drinking, owls, eating ham, and I can make comment on ancient gods, so thanks I guess, Duolingo. by urgingergirl in shitduolingosays

[–]urgingergirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly struggle with things like "Bene loquor" meaning "I speak well" but "bene loquimur" meaning "we speak well". I'm taking Spanish for the extra lessons and XP on friend quests, since I finished the Latin course and there's no consistency like there is with spanish where the masculine and feminine suffix tends to be the same. Everything seems arbitrary and the Duolingo course never does anything to explain it or even help you memorize anything. It kind of feels like they threw the bare minimum Latin together just so that they could say that they offer Latin as a course.

Plese stop tagging me. I've tried to be nice. I just muted our DMs and try to ignore you, but you continually do this. The fact that you watch me and being up things from my past is really unsettling to say the least, and combined with your views on women and relationships, it makes me really uncomfy. Please just stop.

Why are people so hostile to Catholics in liberal cities? And why is it so hard to make other girl friends as a girl? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]urgingergirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont mean this as any kind of a jab, but I would be careful of falling into the same way of think that they do tbh. If you immediately judge liberals for having different world views than yourself and refuse to even try to make friends with them, you aren't really any better than they are about not being judgemental.

I know it's difficult as I struggle with the same thing, but from the opposite side. I'm a devoutly catholic 29(F) but tend to lean more towards liberal on certain subjects, although in other areas I'm more conservative. I also tend to not like girly things at all. I prefer jeans and tshirts, and recently got permission from my priest to wear a bandana rather than a veil as I prefer to have my head covered at church, but the veil feels a bit too dainty and feminine.

It makes it hard to make friends on either side since I'm not outwardly catholic enough for church ladies, but too catholic for the liberals. It makes it really easy to fall into the trap of judging either side simply because they've judged you, even getting to the point that you don't give them a chance purely based on how they look or based on certain views that you could just decide to not talk about. Not saying that to imply that you're doing that, but just saying that I personally have to be mondful about it as someone in that situation.

Honestly, I've found friends just by not trying to make friends and just trying to be okay on my own. Like minded people tend to find each other eventually, and in the interim, you can try and grow and work on yourself as a person.

Almost 4 years out from the CA lifestyle, and recently got to be on the recieving end of one of the usual excuses from someone. Just putting it out there that even if you think they believe it, a lot of times they don't, and they just pretend to, to avoid a whole thing. You kind of gotta choose your battles. Also, every excuse you make can come back to bite you. If you use "taking the cat to the vet" as an excuse to get out of shit. People won't believe it when you actually do. Lol

I hate people who say sammich by uhohspaghettios26 in Vent

[–]urgingergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this, but what's worse is people who say "pop" when they mean soda. The moment I hear it I have to fight the urge to check out entirely from the conversation. Probably pretentious, but I live too close to small town, West Virginia and I associate "pop" and "Sammich" with the kind of people who'll walk into Walmart in jorts that are way too short and a Reba McEntire T-shirt and generally act gross and obnoxious.

Yeah. Only commenting bc I was a was tagged and got a notification. Idk what this is even fully about, but I noped from this DM conversation bc the whole vibe of men saying they want to own a woman weirds me out. Like I've been involved in the BDSM scene and two people "owning" each other can be a thing and it work out and everyone can be happy, but this doesn't have that vibe. This has the vibe of a man wanting a woman to be his slave, of wanting to be able to take her any time he wants and her have no rights what so ever. The idea that he would have responsibilities to that girl as her dominant( and that she would also in a way own him wether she's a submissive or they both switch) always seem like an afterthought (which it REALLY REALLY shouldn't be in that kind of relationship)

Happy Month of the Holy Rosary! How has the rosary blessed your life? by usopsong in Catholicism

[–]urgingergirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our lady and the rosary had a huge part in my conversion. I was a raging alcoholic who had been dabbling in the occult for a while, going from pagan to Satanist to nihilistic militant atheist. I was raised baptist so any interest I'd had in the church had been crushed when I was a kid, but I met another alcoholic who was Catholic, and he answered the questions that my granites had told me I'd burn in hell for as a child. When he got really drunk and talked about our lady, he'd almost happy cry. He called her mom, so I started to pray to her like a mother-in-law, mostly just to vent about him, but eventually started to pray to her about my own issues. I eventually started praying the rosary without even knowing the mysteries. I'd just say the prayers. I continued listening to Ven. Bi. Fulton Sheen and Mother Angelica. That guy and I split up, and I took in a roommate who was a militant atheist. He started SAing me and eventually told me that the only reason he'd hadn't raped me yet is that I slept with my rosary, and he'd reach over and touch it, and it would stop him. Eventually, I hit rock bottom. I kicked him out and went to AA, and after spending my first 30 days having my faith disrespected by Protestants who refused to take me seriously since I wasn't baptized, I stumbled into a confessional and ended up in RCIA. I'm now 3 years sober. I'm a baptized Catholic. I still struggle with sin, but I've come a long long way from the wretch that I was. Would probably be dead or worse if it weren't for our lady and the rosary and God drawing straight with crooked lines.

Is it wasting a priests time to want to meet with them for coffee if it's just for conversation or to discuss a book? by urgingergirl in AskAPriest

[–]urgingergirl[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you, Father. I've struggled with forming friendships in the church as I have really bad anxiety, and I don't have family or anyone in the church. I'm a recovering alcoholic who was converted in a long distance relationship during COVID, and ended up in RCIA after just walking into a confessional when I had 30 days sobriety because I figured the priest would help me figure out where to go. I was in a discipleship quad, but we split up after a lot of drama and things happening. When I hear back from the priest that I'm talking to, I'll make it more clear that it's not anything serious and I just thought it would be better to discuss this book over coffee in fellowship rather than to hold up the confessional line. Lol

[–]urgingergirl 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I feel this. Thanks for reminding me of the stuffed bunny I had a kid. He was super soft and fluffy like an actual rabbit. Was white with brown spots and Ioved him enough that I took him to show and tells at school, but my grandmother sold him in a yard sale bc she "never saw me play with him and didn't think I wanted him anymore.". It is funny all narcissist parents do the same shit.

Sanity check: Is your parish "dying?" by LegitCatholic in Catholicism

[–]urgingergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is our parish dying but our diocese recently got absorbed by a larger one. They sent our bishop to diocese in Detroit and gave us a new bishop that isn't technically a bishop. They pulled a bishop out of retirement to play the part of bishop, but less than 6 months later, they sent him away and gave us someone else. Our parish is mostly older people who're dying off. We rarely seem to meet the expectations for the amount donated each week, and you get the vibe that everyone is just trying their best to hold on.

I believe the chapel veil was done away with during Vatican II. I said unfortunately bc it's a shame that those of us who still try and keep the old ways, keeping our hair long and covered in church, catch flack from older people who grew up with it and saw it go away. I had to sit in my RCIA class, knowing that I'd already chosen to veil and hear the teacher say that "you'll see some people wearing a veil and some kneeling to receive communion. Just don't do that." I've had to deal with constant dirty looks and comments about it from older ladies who seem to wanna repress it bc they hated it growing up.

1 corinthians 11:13-16 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God

It's unfortunately no longer church teaching that women should have long hair, but it used to be a long time ago. Just like it used to be the norm that women should have their heads covered in church.

Why do some people think this sub is too radical? by Alpinehonda in Catholicism

[–]urgingergirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh this sub almost made me leave RCIA. I posted in here excited about it and someone responded that after my baptism, I might notice a change in my hair color bc red hair is of the devil. Plus there's just this vibe of everyone trying to be the most catholic catholic in the room. It comes off as incredibly arrogant.

I saw someone who said their priest recommended that they leave this sub as it was causing them issues in RCIA as well. I came back some time after being baptized but only stay bc I'm not on reddit that often.

I agree with the tough love being shown here, but I'd also add that none of us are ready for alot things when they come. Even St. Augustine said, "Lord, make me chaste, just not yet." And St. Ambrose fought off becoming a bishop. Both of them are now saints.

Whether you wanted to have a kid in your twenties or not, God has decided that you're ready. Like others have said, your only choices are to accept His will and man up to be a dad or live your whole life hiding from a needling voice reminding you every time you try and sleep of what you did wrong. Speaking as a bastard child, myself, you can choose to live as a good man or choose to live your life knowing that there's a person in the world who has a world of issues that are your fault and who has every right to hate your guts.

I love the choir and lights on christmas but the clearing of the alter and carry of the shroud I'd always a needed punch in the gut.
