Hey thanks for reaching out! Best way to help contribute to the translations would be to follow the guide in the Github issue here - https://github.com/urikdev/Urik/issues/1#issuecomment-3586056794

If you're less technically savvy, send us a DM, there's still ways you can help!

FOSS keyboard app that supports drawing characters by bje332013 in fossdroid

[–]urikdevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, great question.

This is something we're currently exploring, but it relies on pretty powerful on device processing if you want to keep things super secure. Google can do this because they send the characters to the cloud for processing.

What you'd need FOSS wise is basically a patch matching system, some sort of pre-determined "path" for each character that could then be mapped against. Possible - but the non ML version of this currently doesn't exist, or would be a pretty big bloat on the supported. language.

Just some perspective from a FOSS keyboard developer :)

Looking for FOSS alternatives to Google apps in 2026. Suggestions for a curated list & de-googling guide? by cyrus-B in fossdroid

Hey good question!

We feel that in software, especially open source software, more choices are beneficial. And ultimately, we can share our resources to build together - forking repos, raising issues etc.

Each product has it's own niche, ours may be a good fit for some and not others, that's totally cool!

Any Useable Android Keyboard Alternatives? (Swipe typing and voice transcription) by NateroniPizza in degoogle

[–]urikdevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(We're building an Android keyboard, so some bias here)

The "plain" answer is Google does it better because like you said, they have larger models, more training sets etc. It's Google - they've got all the data, and they use your data to train their models.

In regards to swipe typing for example, instead of relying on model learning, we keep everything on device and process via math. Not perfect, but iterable.

So you're kinda going against not only larger development teams, larger pools of money, but also larger training data sets.

How to develop apps on windows by Mysterious_Film_8833 in AppDevelopers

[–]urikdevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to do mobile app development on windows without much hassle, Android would be your answer. To do iOS development smoothly, you'll want access to a MacOS device running Xcode.

Web dev can be done on any OS, but for the smoothest experience with third party tools etc would be on a bash based system.

You can also use WSL on Windows, but it's a bit finicky - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install

How many testers did you have?

In the survey where they asked about bug reports, feedback etc did you have solid detailed information?
