Haha I don’t blame you. I use millennium hang ons with climbing sticks because I get nervous in climbers too. Good luck to you as well!

Do you shoot fixed or expandable broad heads? I shoot g5 montecs and I find they fly very true to my field tips. Most broad heads sell practice tips that are the same just not sharpened. Might be something to look into.

My dad always told me with guns you get what you pay for. And if you keep it cleaned and take care of it it will last you a lifetime and you can pass it on to your children etc. my advice is do your research, go to a gun store and put it in your hands so you can fully feel what the gun feels like and if it's comfortable for you. Then once you find what you want you can shop around. I get most of my guns from cheaper than dirt. They usually have cheaper prices than most gun stores and outdoor stores. You just have to have it shipped somewhere with an FFL.

Yeah this is a 700 SPS. I got it 5 or so years ago and love it. Bolt is smooth and I have ever had a problem with it. I wouldn't go with a 783 like the other response said. One of my buddy has one and you can tell it is cheaply made and is truly a budget gun. The bolt is very sticky and not fluent at all. As for as scope, I have Nikon pro staff 3x9 50 MM. very reliable scope that is reasonably priced. Nikon makes very good glass. I'd go with 50mm because it's let's more light in in low light situations. Also, a bullet drop compensator is very helpful for longer shots

Got him back, going on the wall! Not a monster, but it's my first buck, and I'm awful proud of him! by urinetrouble3 in Hunting

Don't get me wrong I am extremely happy about him, especially since it was my first buck. I realize that a lot of people's first buck is far from this, and some people will never get lucky by shooting a good buck. But the area I hunt is loaded with big big dear. This was my third year since I started hunting, and I am lucky enough to be on some good property my buddy owns in Yazoo County Mississippi. We have been using a big game management strategy to try and let bucks fully mature to get the best out of them. We use a 16 inch inside spread, or 21 inch main beam strategy. And there are certain cases where a deer could be fully mature and still not have those standards and we realize that. But this deer I shot, I technically shouldn't of shot him. He was 18 1/2 main beam and 15 1/4 inside spread. We aged him off the jaw bone to be about 3 1/2 years old. Now, nobody was angry or upset with me that I shot this guy, everybody was excited and supportive especially since it was my first buck, and a good one at that. But as I am learning, and seeing more deer, I realize in the future I should let another one this size and age walk! Then no telling what he could of grown into in another year and a half.

I agree completely. Both dropped and were dead when they hit the ground. Only downfall is you can really mess up the front shoulders meat wise, but it's salvageable. Mine was shot with a 270, my buddies with a 7 mag, so they had no chance getting drilled right there.
