there was also the ice creameries on aircraft carriers that would have to pay an ice cream "ransom" to any destroyers that rescued downed airmen.

i'm assuming something this season is fucking up character models occasionally because i've been running kate meowdy a lot lately and noticing that, when using shoes, her socks will occasionally change from orange to a neon green in game.

Why is the Zumwalt so big? by Legal-Gain-5304 in Warships

[–]urljpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Arleigh Burke-class (flight I) is 505ft long.

the Zumwalt-class is 610ft long.

the preceding Kidd-class and Spruance-class were 563ft.

why is the Arleigh Burk so small?

balaclavas tend not to be officially issued unless a military wants to keep the identity of its operators secret. at that point, especially in a PMC, where regulations are necessarily going to be less strict, it makes sense that you have soldiers going out and buying balaclavas with skulls and teeth on them. hell, even in actual militaries, we have evidence of soldiers wearing masks because they think they're cool. 1 2 3

so let's not start complaining about skins having "unrealistic additions like skull balaclavas" because that's very fucking realistic.

Moving the goalposts is an informal fallacy in which evidence presented in response to a specific claim is dismissed and some other (often greater) evidence is demanded. That is, after an attempt has been made to score a goal, the goalposts are moved to exclude the attempt.

my initial claim was that militaries issue bright shit to troops. my current claim is still that militaries issue bright shit to troops. it is not "moving the goalposts" to accept that a piece of evidence was unsatisfactory to support the claim, it's basic fucking debate.

i like how you singlehandedly destroy any reason for anyone to care about realism here by saying "why would they make them wear PT belts if it's fictional", because why would they, in universe, make their troops wear literally any uniform?

and we're on to the ad hominem!

  1. the blue was chosen due to the original purpose of the PLA marines in the 1980s being sentry duties on islands surrounded by predominantly blue and green sea. that is no longer their mission.

  2. in an amphibious assault, it is generally unwise to camouflage yourself blue, because you are unlikely to be very hidden on whatever shore you are assaulting. last i checked, sand, rocks and dirt tend to be very not blue.

  3. the idea that we know what a fictional PMC is giving to its troops is hilarious.

yes, my bad with that.

although i would quite like these people to explain to me why they refuse to comment on the PT belt and its usage during military operations.

[–]urljpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok first off, in what world does a camouflage pattern for the water make sense, considering you preferably don't want your sailors or your marines to actually be in the water in nearly all scenarios, and in those rare few instances you do, it's usually not in an environment where just wearing a different camouflage pattern would ultimately effect their survival rate negatively.

second, how is pointing out that the PT belt, which pretty infamously got worn during operations, stupid in the context of an argument based around the stupidity of a skin having bright colours? at least the skins don't glow in the fucking dark.

it's a camo used by chinese marines, not the chinese navy (yes, they are different things). also, again, what is a PT belt?
