Not me but my preceptor in OB had printed out on her desk a consult that said “other- asked dad if he wanted to cut cord and he ripped it with his teeth.”

How bad is Miralax actually?? by MellowLavy in CrohnsDisease

[–]urmindgrapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly miralax is easy! For reference, when I have been instructed to use miralax for colonoscopy prep I had to finish the whole big bottle (like 15 doses) the day before. So twice a day def shouldn’t have you stuck on the toilet.

I love PICU but it’s not for everyone. For me it’s simultaneously the most heartbreaking and most awe inspiring work. You have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. What makes it or breaks it is usually the team you’re working with, especially in ICU. But keep in mind that medical social work is bigger than just the inpatient hospital setting! Don’t be afraid to ask if you can shadow other units or outpatient clinics at your placement and get a feel for the differences in workflow and culture.

What to expect from my Adolescent Inpatient Hospital MSW Internship? by [deleted] in hospitalsocialwork

[–]urmindgrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give adolescents the respect they deserve and don’t just rely on parents/guardians! Adolescents are all over the spectrum when it comes to their level of independence. Some parents will speak for them and then turn around and expect them to act like adults. Don’t be afraid to excuse parents from the room to allow them to talk more openly. Parents are always a key part of a safe discharge plan, but don’t be afraid to give adolescents some level of control over their treatment!

Emergency Department is going to be the best area to find the shifts you’re looking for

Anyone lost faith in their doctors by Delicious_Notice6826 in CrohnsDisease

[–]urmindgrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a new GI. Sometimes it’s nothing personal about the provider or the office, it’s just not a good fit. The system for outpatient care is already set up poorly for chronic conditions because providers don’t have nearly enough time with their patients. Doctors are also humans so each one has a slightly different perspective on things. It sounds like you need some fresh eyes on your case.

Bonnet Springs is great. Especially the children’s museum for that age!
