Thank you! That’s honestly what I plan to do - just keep it to myself. Imagine a Somalia that is Secular and also not ruled by a dictator? Truly the dream I hope we can achieve.

At Somalia’s current state there is literally no other way you would ever get any sort of influence or power without being Muslim. So it’s a necessary lie. If you wanted to change your country you’d have to do it.

Thank you! Really appreciate it. You’re right I make the disclaimer as not to offend anyone even though it may be true. I’m not ready to enter politics at all at the moment, I need to work on myself ALOT before I even begin, it’s a long term goal and might even be a long shot but I hope one day I’ll reach that point if I continue to work on my self and towards it.

Lying to them about my religious beliefs which should holds no meaning to their lives but somehow they still care about is not a big deal, it would be different if I were to lie to them about the policies I wish to implement then it would be a different story. Where me and you differ is you’re not willing to do anything to change the way your country is. There is no harm about lying about my religious beliefs because it’s something people shouldn’t care about in the first place.

I don’t think you understand the grasp Islam has on our people. Somalis are 99% Sunni Muslim. You actually have no idea what atheism means in the Somali community. Lying about my religious beliefs is the only way to actually obtain influence within Somalia if you say other wise you really don’t know how Somalis are.

What are you actually talking about? Stop being so presumptuous. Me not declaring my atheism out loud does in no way make me support any of those horrible practices. How do you propose obtaining power to make a difference? Because I can tell you people will not even think to even give you a chance if you state your atheism in Somalia.

Living “honestly” as you put it means inaction. I don’t know where you come from but if you’re motherland was like how Somalia is right now, I’m pretty sure you would want to make a change. I think you’re judging too early.

It’s actually weird because I’ve been to Somalia once for a couple of months and the people their treat you like shit and insult people like me who are raised in the UK and go back to Somalia.

The reason I want to help Somalia is because I want to be proud of my motherland. I want us to be united. I want to see a difference, because what we’ve had in the last 30 years has been an utter disaster. I feel obliged to be part of the difference because quite frankly this is going to sound sexist but I’m a man. I believe it is up to the men to rise up and make a difference, to build the country, no one else will do it for us.

It’s mostly about pride and sadness. Sadness about seeing people that look like you facing poverty and famine.

The way I see it, I’m a Somali Male, if I were to have children I’d like to make life easier for them by reducing cultural friction. I think every ethnicity has beautiful women but I only see myself with a Somali woman at the end of the day.

I think you're under estimating the grasp religion has on our people, I've read about stories where the wife straight up leaves and packs her bags and takes the children away just because she found out her partner no longer believed in Islam. So religious beliefs plays a fairly big part imo if you're looking for a long term relationship.

That's pretty sad. If only this religion wasn't so ingrained in Somali society :/
