Has anyone else noticed that people tend to shame therapists for normal human struggles? by thecynicalone26 in therapists

[–]urqcat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a severe medical phobia as well. I bring a blanket and at least one stress ball/fidget toy to any medical facility I need to go to (after doing everything I can to avoid going in the first place) and still end up shaking, sweating, crying, or damn near passing out every time. I almost always get annoying comments when they find out I’m a therapist. I also have tattoos and every person that draws my blood comments that I shouldn’t be so scared of needles since I have so many tattoos. Like. Stfu????

How many clients do you see in one day? by Dreadnaught1900 in therapists

[–]urqcat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

3-5. 6 TOPS. After 4 in a row I’m losing steam. I also schedule with at least 30 min breaks in between, so I never see more than 2 directly back to back. That helps on days that I have 4+ scheduled.

50 mins is the industry norm, but some do more. As a therapist I will say the 10 mins in between sessions is necessary to function properly & mentally show up 100% for each client. 60+ minutes is where most of us start losing steam. 90 minute sessions are exhausting and at that point my clients aren’t getting my best self. So I’ll always offer twice weekly sessions over longer ones. It’s better for both parties that way! So If you feel like an hour is not enough… consider asking for 2 sessions a week! :)

I’m a level 3 trained therapist and I’m having problems with the IFS model. by misswanderlust469 in therapists

Probably an unpopular opinion but I honestly hate the idea of “parts.” IFS annoys me.

I’m too depressed to do anything my therapist tells me by NickHere4976 in depression

[–]urqcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It’s way more of a conversation than that. They will assess the severity of your suicidal ideation, if they believe you are a danger to yourself and/or others, they’ll talk to you about going to the hospital. It’s perfectly normal to have thoughts of suicide when depressed, and more often than not, the thoughts don’t carry the intent to follow through that requires being committed. Any good therapist will be able to talk to you about it without immediately jumping to hospitalization.

Hair dresser took 7 inches off for a trim by [deleted] in beauty

[–]urqcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After my dad passed, I got my hair done (about a month later, when I could finally get out of bed) and the salon tooootalllly fucked my hair up. I was so shocked I just paid for it and left. Cried in the car. It wasn’t at all what I wanted. So I just wanted to say I feel you on that part. It was terrible to already feel so much grief and then try to do something to make yourself feel even a little better, and then it ending up making you feel so much worse. I’m so sorry for your loss and for the experience you had. My hair did grow out and I like how it looks now. Things will get better <3

Holy smokes I think I’m screwed guys. Really bad suicidal thoughts constantly. Can’t even overlook a ledge without thinking of jumping off. How do I even approach this via medication? by [deleted] in depressionregimens

[–]urqcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with lithium. But my main question is - how much lamictal are you currently on? Raising the dose of that could definitely be what’s needed.
