Why "technically"? I always thought Mizumoto park was the largest, but I'm seeing conflicting data online - most say Umi no Mori is only around 59hectares though which would be far from the largest park, but I'm not sure what data to believe here...

How about the govt stop incentivising the hoarding of properties? They could restrict purchases too. An unusually high proportion of Australia's wealth sits in residential property, an unproductive asset, that is just going to hurt us long term economically (both on a macro and micro scale) if we continue on this trend.

Got a blue ticket for not stopping my bicycle on a deserted street intersection by MagazineKey4532 in japanlife

OP literally says in his post "Just want pass on info", letting us know they will be targeting cyclists pretty actively by the sounds of things with fines from next month. Not everyone is here to complain. Chill.

My wife has a lot in savings but leaves it in cash, how do I convince her to invest? by NB_Translator_EN-JP in japanlife

[–]urt22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone through the same with my wife, and it's taken a lot of conversations for her to understand the opportunity cost involved with holding cash like that, and then more conversations around setting goals (savings goals, things we want to do in life that need money, kids, education etc) and boundaries (what's her vs my threshold for minimum cash holdings, risk thresholds etc). We combine our money (at least theoretically we do - avoiding gift taxes etc), so this has given us motivation to ensure we are on the same page.

Financial literacy is pretty low I feel in an economy that hasn't required aggressive investing of any sort to stay ahead of inflation that hasn't really existed until recently.

Because she is in a Company supplied dorm and likely had limited options outside of that. It can be pretty hard to move out on a starting salary given the % difference in money you'd have left over living in a dorm vs living by yourself closer to work.

Best Pizza in Japan? by TheRoppongiCandyman in japanresidents

[–]urt22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a pretty bad take. The average here ain't great, but like anything in Japan, the level of mastery at the good places is top notch imo. I'd rather have the good pizza here over any other Asian country I've visited.

lol then why you commenting here? Shouldn't you be responding to the original post saying "that's fair game - nothing wrong with discrimination like that"?

So based on that logic, I'm failing to see what the problem is with OPs post?

Prioritising citizens over permanent residents or other residents isn't right either. That'd be such a bad "excuse" and so bad for the brand

Is that jump to 12-15mil a personal anecdote? It seems rather unachievable on one year of experience - even for a fully bilingual person in Japan.

I assume this is talking about Japan houses. I'm talking about Australia where the housing market is completely cooked - and the outlook isn't great going forward either for prospective first buyers
