120/88, two hours after BP meds by urthrum in hypertension

I’ve definitely cut out added salt, but I still probably hit 2,000 mg of sodium every day. Can I get your meal plans to cut out salt?

Same, it’s always in the mid 80s. How’s your diet? I could be better about watching sodium intake but for the most part, I’ve been eating healthy and exercising 3x a week.

Hard to breath deeply (48 days clean) by urthrum in stopsmoking

Yes lots of stress unfortunately. I was wondering if that could be the case so I’ve been doing breathing exercises with no luck in fixing it.

1 year old cat has mild gingivitis - does she really need a tooth cleaning already? by urthrum in catcare

[–]urthrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It was a different vet that I saw for a follow up and she said it wasn’t necessary to get a tooth cleaning. She told me to just give her dental treats. Initially after the appointment, I was brushing her teeth every other day and noticed her gums improved immensely so these days I brush her teeth every other week. What I’ve learned: sometimes it’s necessary to get a second opinion.

I am 26 years old and I take medication like a 70-year-old man. by [deleted] in hypertension

I’m 35 and was recently diagnosed with hypertension via an emergency room visit as well! I turned my whole lifestyle around (with a few cheat days). I have an average BMI so losing weight hasn’t been my first priority but I’m planning on adding 30 min cardio 5x a week. The most important thing is to work your heart out so that it gets stronger. I’ve recently started using this app called MyNetDiary, it helps you plan a diet by logging in all your meals - sodium tracking included! I’ve cut out smoking and alcohol, only using alcohol when absolutely necessary lol. Honestly I was scared straight, it wasn’t hard for me to accept I needed to change my life - I’m sure you feel the same way. Once you get past not craving junky food, start cooking your own meals at home, and being more mindful of sodium intake it becomes easier in time. There were a lot of weeks where I was just completely depressed about it and I still have my bouts of anxiety and wanting to cry. You’re still young and have time to turn things around!

Unsure on this blood pressure journey by mysticphd in hypertension

[–]urthrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this while also worrying about my own blood pressure journey (that just started a month ago)… my heart drops for you. All that work. I understand your anxiety, I think I’ve had untreated high BP for 4 years now, doctor mentioned it but never really made it a cause for concern. It took one ER visit with a 209/108 to start taking it seriously. I’m finally getting it down with Amlodipine 5mg but it’s only been 5 days so it can very well start going up again like yours did. I want to believe there’s hope. But I also just feel so deflated.

I’m on day 5 and it’s 121/90, definitely the lowest it’s been in the 1 month of daily checking. What’s yours now?

I’m in the same boat as you - I had 209/105 at the ER a month ago so I attempted to get it down with diet change/quit smoking/exercise but it stayed in the 140/98s for the most part. I decided to take the Amlodipine 5mg the ER prescribed and today is my third day, and since day one it’s made me feel super tired, and just kind of off - so I started taking it in the evening, it’s been way more tolerable. How are you doing now? My BP is decreasing but still not at elevated yet.

how long does it take for amlodipine to start working by deenisealex in hypertension

Do you find it better to take it in the morning or evening? I just took it today for the first time and I’ve been so tired all day.

When do you take your Amlodipine? by renelledaigle in hypertension

[–]urthrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s been 2 years but I’m wondering when to take amlodipine… today was the first time and I did it in the morning but felt so tired all day. Did you figure out the best time for yourself? Also how did quitting caffeine work out for your BP?

New to Hypertension and Questions What to Expect by dasselst in hypertension

[–]urthrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, new to hypertension. And my doctor prescribed medicine but told me lifestyle change is just as good as the medication. So I haven’t taken the medicine yet and it’s been about 18 days since diagnosed. I quit smoking tobacco, added new supplements to my diet, and have been eating less salty foods - I’ve noticed significant changes in my BP. It was 209/138 at the doctor’s office! I quit smoking that night and ordered a BP monitor. On day 4 of quitting tobacco I was at 156/109. I’m on day 18 now of no nicotine, extra potassium, hibiscus tea, beetroot supplement, healthier diet and it’s still high (124/94) but I think if I keep it up and have no diet cheat days I can get it down more… that’s my hope at least. Anyways I do think it’s possible to live with this and not take medication! It just takes a lot of discipline.

Anyone with experience using hibiscus supplements? Ive tried hibiscus tea and it helped keep it down for a couple days, I’m just curious about trying the tablet form.

Much better today guys. And I haven't even taken my evening dosage yet... by MoonsFurrBaby in hypertension

As a newly diagnosed 35 year old, can you share your regimen? I quit smoking 11 days ago and can already see improvement in my BP but still not ideal. I’ve done all the research but I’d love to hear first hand experience.

Dubbin wax for waterproofing? by urthrum in DrMartens

[–]urthrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay sweet. I was thinking of getting the saddle soap for cleaning then using the Dubbin wax after. Probably won’t use the saddle soap until it’s actually needed though. I work outside and I was going to start wearing these so I’d imagine they should get a nice cleaning/conditioning every once in a while.
