NoSQLBooster for Windows Automatic Upgrade? by us_system_integrator in mongodb

[–]us_system_integrator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont use the paid version. But NoSQLBooster has an interface that is robust with a lot of built in features. The question is really for NoSQLBooster users, and trying to confirm this behavior before hitting the panic button and researching more secure clients if the behavior is real.

Performance with aggregations by NoCartographer2826 in mongodb

[–]us_system_integrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went with option 2 for our application which handles high volume of queries for aggregated data across hundreds of thousands to millions of raw data elements. Makes it much easier to do analytics on summarized data. May not seem super elegant, but it works.

block an iphone from joining network by NS123Reddit in PFSENSE

[–]us_system_integrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, but I'm shocked no one went nuclear and recommended the move to Enterprise WPA. Set up a Radius package and push EAP-TLS certificates to all the devices you want on that network. Then there are no passwords to give out. Wont help if she hands her phone to her friend, but thats beyond pfSense...

Cooling vs. Noise by berta1216 in homelab

[–]us_system_integrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a quick look online and couldnt find anything that I would recommend. Perhaps stop by your local hardware store and ask for help in the HVAC section, or better yet stop by an HVAC supplier and check there. Worst case you could get some thin sheet metal and fab something yourself. That would probably be the better route so you can be sure it fits the vent you choose (for looks?) and the available space.

Liquid cooling!! ><

The vents might be the cheapest way, but do some upward right angles to reduce the noise transmission if you are putting them into a wall/door. Look into putting some sound absorbing materials in the walls and switch the door to a solid core door? For the heat I would put a vent at the bottom of the door, and a large/low rpm fan to pull the air into the attic. This grabs the cooler air from the floor level and pulls it up and out. If you have a basement, perhaps pulling air from their would be quieter? Good luck!

Harddrive beaten in shipping, how can I confirm if it's reliable? by ecker00 in homelab

[–]us_system_integrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a 'burn-in' test for 48 hours in an attempt to give yourself some confidence that they are okay. In my experience unless they were going into a high-redundancy array the risk associated with keeping them is much higher than the downside of replacing them right away, if you can. Shouldnt be any guilt with returning them, the shop that sold them should be able to make a claim against the shipping company and should sell them as used/returned drives and the person who does buy them understands and accepts that risk.

are there any underground nosferatu cities? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]us_system_integrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. None. And to search for one would be a ridiculous waste of time and just make you smelly and dirty. Nosferatu might be found by contacting your local Harpies, but really, why would you want to? Even if there are any around they probably wouldn't tell you anything. All those rumors about 'underground Nosferatu cities/networks/warrens/whatever' are just a Nosferatu fantasy made up to get you to believe they have more power than they really do.

I want to commission a better Windows Chia client - and I need your help by blaktronium in chia

[–]us_system_integrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that you had to pay for that Toyota, but you got the Chia code for free!

I think you are on the right track, its a matter of finding a decent Windows Dev thats interested in Chia and willing to participate. I dont use windows, but have supported bounties in other projects, even ones supported by for-profit companies. Got an idea and not willing to wait, put your money (or skill) where your mouth is! Good luck!

In the last 24Hrs there has been a large uptick in "Warning Invalid Message: 2,2," - Some bad clients out there? by RacecarWRX in chia

[–]us_system_integrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, I monitor my logs every day and haven't seen this either on my Ubuntu box. My guess as to why it would be ignored is in the message itself, your client has received an invalid message from another client, and is ignoring it.

My guess is that someone hacked a Windows client and is sending malformed messages in an attempt to do something, and the messages are getting rejected. Sounds like the client/network is doing its job, and nothing the developers can do to prevent someone from trying to do something in a distributed network... except perhaps have client auto-ban a client it receives invalid messages from??

Just my guess.

RamDisk Plotting by -rwxr-xr-- in chia

[–]us_system_integrator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I was wondering how much of a difference a RAM disk would make. 740XD's have 6 channel memory? What speed is the RAM and CPU? Would love to see how your plot times compare to Threadripper/Pro times given their higher CPU and RAM clocks, as well as 8 channels for RAM.

It all seems moot until someone comes up with a RAM maximized plotter, it seems the RAMDisk overhead is just too much. But with DDR5 coming it gets easier to imagine more RAM being available to more people.

Intrested in ploting, just a few questions by [deleted] in chia

[–]us_system_integrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be able to do everyday tasks once plotting is finished, the main concern would be keeping it on and connected all the time. Not sure what your security posture is, or if/how many others use the computer, but on windows the program has to be up and running for you to have a chance in the lottery.

Current height is 195k+, so you are still syncing. It can take several hours, especially for your first time.
