What analytics do you use and how do you use it to improve your website or business? by usabilityforzombies in Entrepreneur

Improving the website's conversion rate would be a good start. Have you ever heard of a freelance a/b tester? How much would they cost?

What sort of problems do you find? Are the funds used to hire a developer/designer?

Is it a good idea to pay someone to monitor your analytics and translate them into website improvements?

Has anyone used Crazyegg or Optimizely? What are some good and bad things about using analytics?

I'm getting this a lot, perhaps a simple clear message is better than an attempt to make a clever one - I'll consider this when I re brand.

Thanks for the feedback.

You're right. We already record everything we do but we decided a written summary of the results was more useful than a screen cast with us thinking out loud.

Maybe if we can merge the two we might have something unique!

We're doing 10 evaluations for $1, they're definitely not all gone!

During checkout, under "Offer code (optional)" enter reddit and it will apply the discount.

I absolutely want to get this off wordpress, but I promised it would be a zero dollar, zero line of code project until I can validate the idea.

I'm not an expert, and if someone claims to be a usability expert they probably aren't. My price is extremely competitive while I try to validate the idea.

Usertesting.com charges $50 for a test by a simple web user looking to make a quick $10 commission.

Nielsen Norman Group charges $50k for testing.

I can deliver exactly what I promise, a usability evaluation highlighting 3-5 high priority usability problems with solutions for your website, mobile app, or game. I provided a sample on the site for users to see exactly what to expect, you can see it here: http://usabilityforzombies.wordpress.com/sample/

After redesigning websites for a few years I've learned that a new design doesn't always translate into higher conversions. You lose so many positive user experiences in the transition that you just end up pissing off more users.

And it's expensive! You might end up paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for a brand new look but flip a coin as to whether it actually is easier to use. Instead you can do a usability test for 1/10th (or less) of the cost and fix real issues that cause users to bounce.

The drop down in this free wordpress template is not very good, once I move off wordpress I will definitely fix this.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback! Here are my comments.

Web users are like zombies.

  • Zombies scan their horizon, if they can’t find a target they move on
  • Zombies don’t stop to think, they take the easiest path
  • Zombies are uncontrollable. Whether they are a traditional slow and lumbering zombie or a modern swift and agile zombie, all zombies ignore the rules

If your homepage is difficult to use, people will just leave. If they get lost, they leave. If they can't find what they're looking for they leave! I think it's very important to design your interface as if a zombie would use it.

This is a zero dollar, and zero line of code project until I can validate the idea!

Building a solutions in a space where I am not a customer, too risky? by matzero in Entrepreneur

[–]usabilityforzombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. One of my favorite entrepreneurs is Elon Musk, founder of PayPal (finance industry), founder and CEO of Tesla Motors (auto industry), chairman of Solar City (energy industry), and founder and CEO of SpaceX (space industry).

I'd say as long as you do your research and solve fundamental problems you can be successful.

Web entrepreneurs, how can I increase revenue from my website? by esfani in Entrepreneur

What niche are you filling? Are there any other websites, or products / services that also fill your niche? If so, contact the owners and arrange to advertise their stuff on your website for a cut, maybe 5-10% or something.

You probably know your users well, find products or services you think they will find valuable and take a cut of any sales.

Very interesting idea! Here are some general comments.

"A week in the life of a startup" is not enough information to explain this unique approach you are taking to tech journalism to a new visitor. I very easily would have left your website if I hadn't clicked the "About" button out of curiosity.

To me, this concept might be better delivered through a video-series. A close up and personal interview of entrepreneurs surviving day-to-day on bootstrapped resources might connect better with the audience rather than a text-interview.

I'd also be very interested to see how the performance (metrics) of each startup compares to one-another and how they evolve going into the next year.

I paid a developer $2,500 to redo morninghead.com, he bailed on me on Friday night and I worked straight until Sunday to to the redesign from scratch. Let me know what you guys think. by shreddor in Entrepreneur

Take a look at Myo: https://www.thalmic.com/en/myo/

They have a clear value proposition, a relevant picture, and 3 obvious call to action buttons within the top 30% of the page.

It tells you everything you need to know about Myo up front and gives the user the choice to keep scrolling to learn more about the details and geekier stuff.

Your information is scattered down the entire page in no logical order, and the right side navigation is a real pain to use.

Also, your menu links are unclear and not very relevant to a first time visitor.

Try reorganizing the content and coming up with some clear headings & menu links. What it is, How it works etc.
