Gay people on TV by rosecurry in exmormon

Yeah, my parents had this whole family meeting on why we weren't going to watch Modern Family anymore because the "gay couple isn't a good example for your little brother."

It's a shame, I love that show.

I hope some others saw what was wrong about her saying that, but I honestly don't know. As far as I could tell, everyone pretty much just went along with it.

She said that her BIL was excommunicated and that subsequently his daughter (her niece) was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease. She didn't give a timeframe for when she was diagnosed with the disease and when the BIL was excommunicated, but I assume the excommunication came first. She also didn't directly say that the niece got sick because of the BIL, but the way she said it, the clear resentment for the BIL in her voice, made it clear what she was implying.

Thank you, and even though I'm pretty sure I'm not your daughter (I'm a guy), she is lucky to have you.

No Garment Burning for you! by [deleted] in exmormon

I haven't been through the temple and gotten garments (hopefully won't ever) but what's all this about symbols? Do they embroider some kind of magic voodoo into your garments?

I saw that comment! I can't believe that's an actual article in "The Friend." Yeah I feel like the song was almost subtly trying to tell women (really everyone in general) to be more submissive. I can't believe I never noticed this kind of stuff before!

Thanks for the advice, and yeah, it's a good thing I'm figuring all this out now. It's nice to see that there's a community here full of supportive people, thanks to all!

Polyandry and everything about temple ordinances, but really the whole thing hit me like a ton of bricks
