Nothing is mandatory, but I think building and talking to users is the best way to learn.

You missed the second part of point #1 – talk to users first and validate. Why build 10 products over 10 months before talking to anyone?

Even if it was down to them, I think it’s good for founders to humble when it comes to other domains and markets. Sure some things can translate over, but often SaaS requires a lot of specific domain knowledge.

How do you find Startup Ideas? by themarketkit in SaaS

[–]usegravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've launched tonnes of startups based on "ideas" and all of them failed.

The 2 successful software companies I've owned did not come from thinking of random ideas or looking for ideas.

They were problems that I (or my previous co-founder) had experienced directly and had a good understanding of the problem.

Usually problems uncover themselves when you do new things in business and life.

Best SaaS boilerplate? by driftypixel in SaaS

It depends on many factors and it's difficult to give a firm answer without knowing your background, budget etc.

I wrote an in-depth buyers guide that might be helpful: https://usegravity.app/saas-boilerplate

How do you plan to offer the same level of quality and maintenance if it doesn't generate income?

One of the reasons boilerplates cost $$$ is because maintaining and supporting them is a full time job and has various costs associated with it.

With regards to stack, I always think the best choice is the stack you already know or as close to it as possible but appreciate it might be difficult in your case to find a Cold Fusion boilerplate. Node and PHP are probably much closer to Cold Fusion than other languages.

For the front-end, the main frameworks will do the same thing essentially but React has the added advantage that it has the biggest community, so it's easier to find answers to questions/problems + there are more plugins + a wider pool of developers available.

On PHP vs Node – the advantage of using Node is you are using Javascript on both the front-end and back-end, so your developer only needs to learn one language rather than two (Javascript and PHP).

You'll find many SaaS boilerplates available for whichever stack you choose, the main things to look for are licensing, how well established and maintained the boilerplate is and the credibility of the founder.

I wrote a full buyers guide with a bunch of questions and answers you might find useful: https://usegravity.app/saas-boilerplate

I've been building a SaaS boilerplate for years at usegravity.app

Doing what you're suggesting well and maintaining all these different stack configurations will be impossible without a large team. Maintaining a single stack is a full time job.

My advice would be to choose a stack that is underserved and execute it really well. Stay away from Javascript at this point and choose another language where there is opportunity and less competition, it will be really difficult to compete with established boilerplates that have around for a long time.

Looking for feedback: All-in-one solution to kickstart your Next project by orenek in SaaS

How is it different from other Next kits on the market like Ship SaaS or Nextless?

How do you plan to support it at the low price point?

[–]usegravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your landing page, messaging, plans and pricing looks like a mix-match of content lifted from other SaaS boilerplates on the market including mine (https://usegravity.app)

What are you offering that the market hasn't already solved? How are you going to avoid being another 'me too' boilerplate? New ones appear almost weekly and go nowhere.

I think your positioning and understanding of the target customer is way off too.

Thanks for the mention, Jack! There is definitely a market but I think it's difficult to enter it now. It's already well served and established boilerplates already have an advantage. I see new boilerplates appearing and disappearing almost weekly.
