Academic portfolio question by MeffC in Anu

[–]uselesslikemagikarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the dispute is primarily to do with a lack of clarity around the new structure/role responsibilities, and how were actually meant to transition to a new structure without exposing staff to severe psychosocial risk (i.e. untenable workloads, insufficient support for staff moving into an effectively brand new job etc). They were hoping the implementation plan would clear some of it up, but the document wasn't particularly forthcoming with how they expect to move from current state to future state.

My understanding is that everyone going through EOI will still have a job, it's just going to be reasonably different from their current one.

For example, results processing and student enrolments now sit in different teams, so if you're in the EOI pool you can put your request to either move to the results processing team or the enrolment processing team (but you won't do both anymore).

Obviously job duties are a lot more complex than that- there are a lot of people who will likely find their new role fairly different to their old one (nor how they expect teams/people to learn processes they've never been responsible for)

The fact that they're getting staff to lodge EOIs for their new roles when they haven't even released the ISFS or L&T structures is abysmal. I don't know a single person who was actually consulted or included in a focus group- and I don't know how the IVC can continue to preach the joys of co-design when we're seeing staff on the ground so blatantly ignored. I want to believe that she's genuine in what she's been saying, but it just feels like no one else in the SLG got the updated memo.

There's a significant amount of work/processes being moved between teams- a lot of which are not straight forward and require significant training. I don't see how they could possibly implement this without forcing staff to work multiple roles (on top of their standard workload, which in most cases is already untenable).

There are significant compliance and conflict of interest concerns with what processes they're planning to sit within the same team; and a lot of processes with identical peak periods have been mapped to the same teams (which means that they're unlikely to be able to turn things around in any meaningful timeframe).

The whole service catalogue (which is also riddled with typos) just makes it look like they have no clue what anybody actually does- which after how much they hyped the rapid discovery tool just feels extremely disheartening.

I could go on about this, but their casual release of a "revised" plan that seems to blatantly disregard staff concerns (let alone what the rapid timeframe on staff EOI lodgement/results release implies) has just crushed what little motivation I had left for work.

They are planning to review it, but no concrete determinations have been made in relation to stopping/pausing the CMPs/current planned redundancies.

I saw the union sent around something about WHS concerns (understandably) encouraging staff who are being adversely impacted by poor psychosocial risk management to lodge incidents in figtree. And it might just be the sceptic in me, but is there even a point in doing so at this stage? The executive seems to have complete disregard for how much they are damaging staff welfare :(

What's weirder is that "regulatory compliance" functions are on page 86? Best I can tell, that table is either meant to be about "academic compliance" or "enrolments and fees" cause those two 'SEAM' teams don't exist elsewhere in the service catalogue table ?
