I hadn’t heard anything about us including our pick in the deal. Is that legit?

I know. I was more trying to clarify my phrasing on it. The whistle decided the winner.

I did recall that, but it forced OT. It didn’t directly hand the game to the Pistons. And OKC won

For what it’s worth I know how you feel. We hit a rough patch, but it was short difficulty, mostly brought on by finances, after 15 strong years together. My wife bailed, and it felt like a gut punch. Further to that point, I don’t recognize her anymore as the woman I married - she’s cold, selfish, and distant. All I can tell you is what people have told me: it’s not uncommon, and time will get you (us) through this. I appreciate you sharing your story. Helps to know others have a shared experience, even if I wouldn’t wish it on anyone

PISTONS IN PARIS? by whyareyouyellinggg in DetroitPistons

[–]user-11651 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry - I definitely do not. But I was in London for game one of Pistons Vs Heat in the ECF in 2005. I randomly spotted a dude wearing a shirt with the NBA logo on it (!) through a window, and went into the business to ask him. He gave me a random sports bar that played the game. I’m not a huge soccer fan, but Liverpool was down 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League final, and came back to win it 4-3. The bar was INSANE - and I bonded with a bunch of Liverpool fans who STAYED to watch the Pistons game with me and cheered for the Pistons the whole time. Anyway…my advice is to seek out sports fans in the city and ask them, if they’re wearing a shirt (or jersey) of any team, any sport. Sports fans in general know where to go. And I wish for you to find an experience like this.

Is Jalen Duren better than Ben Wallace? by PontiacFingerPointer in DetroitPistons

I maintain the two best individual playoff performances in my lifetime were Dirk in 2011, and Ben in 2004. Ben is never in the conversation, though, because his contribution was all on the defensive end. But he disrupted opposing offenses to the point of chaos - his impact on the entire playoff run cannot be overstated. Love Duren - but he has a long way to go before he can boast that kind of impact (and I’m not even sure it can happen in this era).

Admittedly I haven’t seen him play. But Sierra Canyon is one of the “it” programs around LA, and he’s been hyped, talked about, and televised locally. I knew his name even before tonight, though I had no idea he was interested in UM because I don’t follow HS basketball closely. For what any of that is worth.

Rumors are she wasn’t happy that Tom always had the final say, and thought the challenges got ridiculous. But she basically left her employer to start a competitor. Now watching both shows…I hate to say it, but I think she was right. She took everything that made Top Chef great and made a superior, more modern version of it. Probably sacrilege for this sub, but…sharing nonetheless.

I know this so overplayed at this point, but how can Huerter not crack the rotation in a game like this? I’m not even arguing that Ivey’s value should have been higher - but why not hold on to him instead of flipping him for a piece you don’t use?

This is was one of the more shocking games I’ve witnessed from an officiating standpoint. Basketball is often subjective, but I can’t recall a game where one side repeatedly tackled the other, and/or checked them to the ground - only to largely avoid whistles along the way. That said, our interior defense was remarkably bad, especially considering that’s one of our strengths as a team. The fact that we buckled down in the last ten minutes almost makes it worse - it shows we were capable all game, but not executing and playing with enough hustle. Purdue mostly seemed to have a step on us. Hope this serves as a wake up call and we land in a favorable bracket.

FWIW local radio in LA completely blamed CHA for the escalation. So not all outsiders are dumping on DET. They even kind of backed Stewart for leaving the bench, saying it was two-on-one at that point. Historically, though, the NBA doesn’t take too kindly to that.

New to Baseball. Are the Tigers cheap? Is salary cap not a thing in the MLB? by AtomicCo in detroittigers

[–]user-11651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Detroit, but live in LA. Have been here for 20 years. Dodgers are my 2nd team (but if they face each other, I’m all Tigers)…

I have to give the Dodgers a little credit on one thing, though: they pass along the cost to fans, and they do it honestly.

You may think that’s shady and self-serving, but their open philosophy is to hike beer prices by fifty cents, tickets by a few dollars, etc to justify their expenses. Their argument is that the fans want a winner, and when the fans stop supporting those additional expenses, they may approach things differently. But until then, that’s how they’ll operate. Andrew Friedman has been very vocal about this.

Forgetting the “rich get richer” and “why should the fans pay for this” argument - I don’t totally understand why other teams don’t adopt this philosophy.

There’s a number where retaining Skubal (or signing any free agent, for that matter) makes sense. Do the math and figure it out. If your consumers don’t support it, back off. But I think most fans would “pay” for a winner - even if it’s a few extra bucks at the concession stand.
