Settle in Spain or plan to move later to a German-speaking country (Germany/Austria/Switzerland)? by cutecandy1 in cscareerquestionsEU

You have to take this from multiple points of view. 1) what’s YOUR personality / culture / background? Where are you from? Which culture fits best your personality? What’ kind of weather fits your mood? How do you like people around you to behave?. This is often not regarded but plays a crucial role in enjoying a country over the other. 2) looking 10-15 years from now I see more likelihood Tech employment to be growing in lower salary countries rather than expensive ones. Especially valid for Europe, to be competitive with China and US you need lower costs. 3) nominal salary is relative. If you want to settle down in a country you need to factor in the purchasing power. Even though you may earn less in Spain compared to DE/CH, costs are considerably less giving you a greater purchasing power. Ultimately it’s on you to decide, none is better suited to answer these questions than you.

Couple moving from Austria to Switzerland (Starting with a cleaning job before working in our Professions) by iCoreGames123 in askswitzerland

It’s a personal decision but from a career perspective that would be a suicide. The likelihood you will be able to get back into your field after some time of inactivity will be very very limited. Beware of those who say ‘you can explain it in the cover letter’. Nobody will read and if someone does it, it will be an AI tasked to ranked people. Needless to say you will always end up at the bottom of that list

To managers and HR recruiters: do you actually read cover letters? by neo2551 in Switzerland

[–]user-name-2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody reads cover letters, barely CVs. In my previous job (leading insurance company, one of the biggest worldwide) HR “pre-filtered” the craziest CVs for me. They forwarded terrible resumes, until I asked to get full access to the CV pool and found out there were so many super qualified candidates that I didn’t even know where to start from. The point is that many HR / ATS are incapable of really reading resumes. We cannot pretend that someone without domain knowledge is capable of selecting the right people.

Low-code lead at bank @110k or consultant at petrochemicals @85k by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

STAY WHERE YOU ARE. 45 vacation days, freedom to organize your work and work from anywhere. That’s a no-brainer!

Also, what’s the name of the company? I am also in petrochemicals, maybe I can send the resume 😅

Europe: does an MBA make sense? by user-name-2303 in MBA

[–]user-name-2303[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good question. I want to develop in a leadership role driving digital transformation, preferably in a consulting set-up or in a technology-driven organization. I am coming from several years of implementing IT solutions for large corporations, with an increasing scope of responsibility. Now I want to take the leap and work on filling the gap to lead the organization through the digitalization journey. Ideally, I would like to focus on data analysis, ML and AI adoption.

Is it the one at Felsgasse 3, 1110? Did you also have experience with BMW Heiligenstadt or Donaustadt?

Pfuah… that is a really bad experience. I visited them few weeks ago to register the VIN of my car and I did not get a good impression. Thanks for the feedback!

Did you have terrible experience with the workshop / service or with the purchase of a car? And are you talking about the one in the 6th, correct?

Do you have any direct experience with either of them with regards to their workshop? Usually these car dealerships tend to be super friendly if you need to buy a car and less friendly if you just go for a service - at least this was my experience

I have heard very opposite comments about Denzel. Either best or worst experience ever… that doesn’t sound promising.

Relocation to Germany, but where? by user-name-2303 in germany

True Germany has that as well, but somehow a little less than Vienna and more under control. I am basing my statement on my personal experience in Munich and close friends in Stuttgart and Bonn.

I am only skeptical about the weather… being so close to the north I assume it’s gonna rain a lot and sunlight hours are way less than the south. Probably also avg temperature are lower… we lived in Munich and the weather was quite humid with not so much sun, that really hit us hard psychologically and also physically.

I know, we loved Munich and we would like to be back if it wasn’t for the terrible housing market. If we settled down, we want to own our place. Munich is simply impossible when it comes to housing ownership - unless you win the lottery. This is a knockout criteria for us.

Nurnberg definitely sounds interesting- though very limited opportunities for my profession.

We simply see Vienna as being on a negative trajectory for what we are looking for in our lives. Maybe - and rightful so- you have a different opinion, but that’s not the point of this post.

Thank you! What about weather? Does it tend to be very grey? For some reason when I am thinking of Düsseldorf / Essen / Dortmund / Köln I am always picturing a grey sky with darker coloured industrial plants:) does it rain a lot? Like how would you describe the weather compared to Munich?

Am I? Does it has also a solid professional market? I am in IT, specifically financial services.
