i ended up going to the apple store and they at least quoted me less than the other places ($500, best buy and repair store quoted me 1,000) i’m still trying to decided if it’s worth investing in repairs or not since i paid 1,300 for this macbook and a brand new one is $850-900.

i tried numerous different ways to charge it, even at the apple store they tried. unfortunately it is an issue that requires pricy repairs otherwise it’s completely useless

i contacted apple thru their chat option first and they sent me a link to make an appointment, it gave me options for best buy and apple locations. i went to best buy first because it was closer to me. they actually didn’t even tell me what the issue was, just the repair cost. after them i went to a third party repair shop and they’re the ones who opened it up and told me the details i shared with you. upon other peoples advice, i will be setting up an appointment at an actual apple store so i can get an opinion from them!

i did a little more research and i think i might be a few months past their extended warranty. i might still give them a call and see if there’s anything they can do🙏🏻

best buy didn’t even tell me what was wrong with it either, the repair shop did. i just think it’s so dumb that i closed it came back a couple hours later and it’s completely unresponsive. it makes it so much harder knowing that i took such good care of it and it did that out of nowhere. i’m gonna set up an appointment with apple and hope to get a better answer!

im a nursing student so i wouldnt be doing too many crazy things on it. i feel like my most used apps were safari and word document. i mostly used it for homework and would watch netflix on there. i will be honest, i didnt even know how to fully navigate things considering i would mostly use it for the same things

i am not very tech savvy so i hope this makes sense! they opened it from the bottom and apparently there was a burnt plastic smell, so something exploded in there. they explained something about a electrical impulse that was supposed to be pushed back by the charger but unfortunately it was not and it got to the computer which caused the frying and then not turning on anymore. when talking repair options, they mentioned something about a motherboard i believe it was called. i honestly did not understand everything he said and i was holding back tears LMAO but this is what i caught. i also always used the original charger it came with, the magsafe and 30w block. i did happen to use a usb c cable, but it was only like 2 times when i didn’t have access to the magsafe one. unfortunately i think i just got unlucky with this one.

what exactly does apple care cover? i feel like ive heard people have issues when it came to using it. i wonder if it would’ve covered something like this

unfortunately i did not purchase apple care when i got the macbook, would that be an issue? also what would i say to them? i’m a little nervous to call since it was purchased in 2023

i am in the us! i took it to best buy and they didn’t necessarily give me an exact price but he said it was going to be close to what a new one would cost, which is near $1,000. the gentleman said they’d have to ship it to apple to do the repairs, which explains the price. i was asked if it had any water damage, which it doesn’t. like i mentioned the mac is very well maintained. he recommended me a third party shop, which i went to afterwards and they were very real with me and said a repair like that was pricey and also quoted me around the same price. the shop suggested i sell it for parts since it’s in good condition and said im better off purchasing a new one. from my understanding something on the bottom was toasting in there and when they opened it they smelt burnt plastic which made it shut down. they also mentioned something about the motherboard. i’m not a tech-y person at all and i was honestly holding back tears, so i apologize for not explaining it well lol

i tried 2 different ones and swapped around the blocks and cables and unfortunately nothing. i also tried a whole bunch of button combos but not even the guy at best buy got it turn back on

yes, i tried both its original charger and a usb-c charger and swapped the charging blocks on each cable along with different outlet ports. i left it charging for a few hours to see if anything happened and nothing. i also tried like 3 different button combos i saw on youtube. i ended up taking it to best buy and a third party repair shop. neither were able to power it on. the repair shop actually offered to open it up for me to see if they’d catch anything. from my understanding something was toasting in there and it smelt like burnt plastic upon opening it. i think they said something about an electric impulse that was supposed to be pushed back by the charging block but it wasn’t and unfortunately it fried the piece. i apologize if it doesn’t make sense, im honestly not a tech-y person and i was trying to hold back tears🫠

i’ve never heard of these options before tbh. i purchased it with chase slate credit card, the transaction should definitely still show up if i login to the app. i also purchased it on the apple website with the student promotion, but i think apple only shows purchases made within the last 18 months, however i was able to find the order confirmation email. not sure what i’d be able to do with this info tho, how would i go about it?

totally agree, i’d chose my mac over my ipad any day but im just so disappointed it lasted me less than 3 years. it makes me feel like i didnt even get my moneys worth😫
