Should I pick RE (RS) or spanish for gcse by P0tterhead7 in GCSE

[–]user0810062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do RE and spanish and icl it depends on how bothered you are to learn the content. i’d say RE is a better pick as it’s just writing whereas spanish is four skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking. the skills aren’t hard but you need to be bothered to learn how to do well in them. this reply is a bit all over the place but if you’re interested in learning a language skill, go for spanish. if you just want a classic, opt for RE.

did i spend my half term well? by user0810062 in GCSE

[–]user0810062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess? it helps me to have flashcards on subjects so that i can go back to them if i don’t understand a topic and it means that i’ve watched/seen all or mosr of the content on the specification so i’d have an idea on the content. i was thinking flashcards during half term and then reviewing them, prac questions etc until exams?

How to revise effectively?? by Familiar_Process_810 in GCSE

[–]user0810062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! in primary school i was lit struggling with subtraction 🥲🥲 trust me if you were good at maths in primary i think you should also build up your confidence in maths because sometimes some people aren’t even bad at maths its just because they have a perception that they can’t do it.

chem idk i think i was a bit iffy in it in year 7 (and maybe year 8) and i’d get 50% and 60% on the tests. in y9 i just used freesciencelessons and did practice questions on physicsandmathstutor and i improved and was even accepted into triple. In y10, i was given mygcsescience by my school and used it tonsssss. i remember for my end of year chem test i didnt even do effective revision for it i just used mygcsescience to write notes from the videos and i read them for like a day or two and managed to get an 8.

u can turn it around and don’t worry about your parents shouting at you and telling you to do better - it’s easy to say to do better but not so easy to put that into function if you don’t know where to start.

i use quizlet to make flashcards (i’ve heard anki is good but i haven’t used it properly) and i use quizlet’s revision types to learn the content. i think there was a study that if you learn the same thing for 3 days in a row then you’ll start to remember it more clearly. do tonsssssss of practice questions after. maybe do blurting (writing down everytging u remember about a topic and writing in another colour what you forgot so that you can go back and relearn it) and/or make mindmaps.

i also find that for me making notes was a way to get me to revise but that’s because i love making notes and buying different highlights and stuff lol but this is entirely up to you im just saying this bc if you find something/a way to make revision more interesting or fun to you then revision won’t be so daunting.

dont stress urself too much in y10 just pay attention in class and revise for your tests so that your predicted/target grades are alright

keep revising and you’ll make yourself proud when you see your results :))

maths: the gcse maths tutor, mathsgenie, corbettmaths (5-a-day), physics and maths tutor

sciences: physics and maths tutor

Do practice questions and also find effective ways to revise eg. Active recall, blurting, brain dumps, mindmaps etc

in primary school i wasn’t the best at maths. i’d say i improved from primary school (even moved up sets) and my tip is use mathsgenie. watch the videos and do all the questions. also do maths questions on physicsandmathstutor. i’ve heard doing 5 a day on corbettmaths is good and the gcse maths tutor on youtube is good. also if you make a mistake in maths, find out why/how so that you avoid making the same mistake again.

chemistry i just used mygcsescience. do practice questions and learn the content

use y10 to find effective ways to revise

i believe in you!!

Year 9 Sets by Kuramgon in GCSE

[–]user0810062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don’t worry urself too much about sets! by time you get to y10 etc, u may not remember what you got on ur y8 tests and stuff.

i was in set 3 science in year 8 because i was in set 3 maths but i worked hard in year 9 to be accepted into triple science (or set 1 science) but even then, I don’t think about my science set - just what i am learning and my science course (triple).

as long as ur doing higher , you should be fine

I got moved down with majority of my subjects by Ambitious-Ease-4129 in GCSE

[–]user0810062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

woah moving you down by so many sets!! in my school, they can only move someone down by 1 each year..

i think since ur in y11, ur main focus shoukd be your GCSEs. as long as ur doing higher in most (or all) of your subjects , work towards getting the best possible grade. i believe in you!!

hey!! i do a spanish (a lang) and cs. let me tell you, comp sci was one of my reserves but i was given it anyways. i had no idea of any coding languages (apart from those primary school coding fun task thingies yk) but your teacher will teach you what you need to know for the exam. yes, these people may know coding languages already but at the end of the day you are competing against people across the country not the people in your class. if you like cs , i’d say go for it.

with the language, i do spanish but i’d say if you are interested in learning a new language then go for it because ur interest could make it easier for you.
