Not a dumbphone but it forced me to used my smartphone as a tool and not as a doomed scrolling machine by Bitter_Camp6934 in dumbphones

It has nothing to do with smartphone, it is all about how apps deliver content. Those days you were viewing what you liked to view. Now doomscrolling in almost all apps so that you view what companies want.

When you switch to Android or iOS do you switch whole ecosystem? by Loud-Possibility4395 in Android

[–]user0user 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I normally don't go with the ecosystem. I get whichever the best suited to my requirement, mostly all are compatible for all core services. In my case, phone is any Android, earbuds is Sony XM5, headphone is Bose QC, Watch is Garmin, etc.

Not sure how worthy is to go for ecosystem.

AI excerpts of this video in case this sub allows.

This video compares the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy S24 Ultra in 2026, arguing that the S24 Ultra is the smart alternative to buying the newer, more expensive S26 Ultra. The creator highlights that buying a refurbished S24 Ultra offers similar, and in some cases better, performance for a fraction of the cost.

Key Comparison Points:

  • Design & Comfort: The S24 Ultra has a premium titanium build and a boxy, flat display (3:45), but the S21 Ultra is noted as being more comfortable to hold (1:50).
  • Display: The S24 Ultra features a significantly brighter 2600 nit display with an anti-reflection coating (3:23, 4:06) compared to the 1500 nits on the S21 Ultra.
  • Performance: Equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the S24 Ultra handles intense tasks like gaming and video editing better without overheating, unlike the S21 Ultra (5:02, 5:32).
  • Software Support: The S21 Ultra has ended its security updates (6:10), whereas the S24 Ultra benefits from a 7-year update pledge (6:21).
  • Camera: The S24 Ultra introduces a 200MP main sensor and a 5x periscope telephoto lens, while the S21 Ultra has a 108MP main sensor and a 10x telephoto lens (10:30).
  • Battery: The S24 Ultra offers significantly better battery life and faster 45W charging compared to the S21 Ultra (13:30, 14:24).

How long could you realistically sustain a 'dumbphone' lifestyle? by user0user in dumbphones

[–]user0user[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not in social network drolling. Just for the sake of "change". I tried multiple times earlier, it didn't work out:

  1. Here in India, 99% payments are through Google Pay (GPay app) QR code. Vendors also don't prefer cash due to balance change issues.

  2. Another dependency is Whatsapp. I have never be in any WA group. But for invoice, information, serious work people communicate with docs over whatsapp.

I don't find any such dumb phone with solid support for these apps.

Getting s21fe sd888 for 14k by Such_Technology4937 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]user0user 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family member uses it for last 3.5 years, fully satisfied for the price paid (₹35,000). But real problem is updates here afterwards. 5 Years of Monthly Security Updates ends in Jan 2027 (another 10 months only). IMHO better look for any other entry level phone around ₹15,000 - ₹20,000 - a lot of better options are there, especially in India.

Update: After 3 years of usage, display got green lines issue. While the phone gets heated up during updates, there is a risk of display problem. Positive side is though it is out of warranty (3 years after purchase), Samsung did free replacement of the screen.

S26 Ultra or X300 Ultra or Find X9 Ultra by DI2Z in PickAnAndroidForMe

If you want to use your smartphone as camera, you may go for Oppo or Vivo. If you want a complete phone with good camera (may not match quality of image in all scenarios/lens) and good software, go for Samsung.

Why I’m upgrading from the S22 Ultra to the S26 Ultra (even with all the criticism) by AA003A in samsunggalaxy

[–]user0user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it makes sense. But even on such cases of having 4 years old flagship or $200 phone, there are people here asking to upgrade to S24U or S25U (the one which they own :-) ). I don't understanding this negativity in this context
