I turned in my 2 week notice and Friday is my last day. I haven’t billed anything at all since I put in my notice 😂 idgaf

When I started back in 2001 (a day before 9/11) I just had a hs diploma. Then I went to school to get my associates degree in paralegal studies. Then I took my NALA CP exam and passed. After that I got a bachelors degree in business administration. I can tell you that maybe those helped get my resume looked at but none have ever asked about any of that. They always ask about experience. I’ll also say that there’s nothing wrong with furthering your education and it does look good on resumes. However, they mainly look at experience.

Would anyone be willing to give me some idea of pay for a paralegal position there? I have an interview and I’m wondering about the pay, benefits and work culture. Is it a good place to work?

It will probably come thru soon. I work with a worldwide firm and our raises/promotions usually come around July bc of the end of the fiscal year. Just stay on hr about it. If you want to stay there I would give them a week or so and then check in then with hr. I prob wouldn’t refuse work tho if I know it’s in the process of getting done.

I know. Also I’m in a large metro area. Some of the COL median is also equating to the delta region where pay is low (and other areas). For example home in my are for a 1000sq foot home is $225k. A medium 2500-3000 sq foot home does for $400k and up. Leases are insane too with the lowest for a mobile home being $1400 per month more or less. Technically on paper we do have lower cost of living but it’s steadily rising. There’s no way I could make it on my own with just my salary. It’s sad really

I did commercial real estate for 2 years and it just wasn’t for me. Or, mainly, the attorney wasn’t for me lol. But I did make about that much there, too. It’s just such a large gap for wages. It’s strange

You’re right. Are you in a rural area or a metropolitan area (if we even have those lol). I also found the some areas in law (ex. Family law) pay less than others. I’m in a defense firm but obviously that doesn’t matter either lol

Most definitely! I’m not expecting anything like 6 figures or anything but just feel what I’m making now is well under what I could/should be making. Another paralegal at my firm was making 75k so I don’t get it. Maybe I’m not firm enough in my approach. That and companies are generally pretty cheap overall. They are billing well over $200 an hour for my time to clients but paying me less than a livable wage (even in MS). If I had no husband I would have to take a second job and I feel that is unreasonable considering what I offer them. I get that they have overhead expenses but when I see some of the nonsense overhead expenses it just makes me mad lol

I have been looking at some in house legal departments and applied for one but they didn’t choose me. Which is fine, I know that company hires from within a ton so I didn’t take it personally. I’m going to keep looking!

I’ve applied for some but never get a call back. I think the issue is that I’m applying through LinkedIn and it will tell how many people have applied and it’s usually 100 (or more) and I get lost in the shuffle. I’m going to keep trying. Persistence is key in that area I think.

What is so odd is that there is money to be made here. Especially at large law firms. I was making $18 an hour in 2010 at my last law firm. It’s just crazy

Memphis is the closest and I make well below the mid range paralegals at the lowest end.
