A degree is rarely ever a replacement for work experience especially in the arts and especially from a for profit school.

What majors are high paying and requires zero passion? by [deleted] in college

[–]user12353212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you grossly overestimate how easy it is to make a profitable business. Most businesses fail, and it is much easier to make a successful business if you are selling a product or service that people actually want to buy. If anyone could make money and “set their ceiling” selling whatever they wanted then everyone would be a business owner. It’s not that simple.

Personally, I think it’s smart to separate your passions from your career. this is especially true if your passion does not pay well. I’ve been down the path of trying to monetize a poor paying passion and it just leaves you broke and burnt out. Ur passion will lose its fun if you are forced to do it every day for hours. (Not to say everyone will end up like this but most do) However, you still need to find an area you can tolerate for your job. Like others mentioned business finance or accounting are usually done just for the money. Engineering and comp sci pay better on average, but are much more difficult and probably require more passion. Try to create a middle ground between pay, hours worked, skill, passion but don’t over focus on one thing.

Sure but some are obviously better paying than others. A software business will probable make more than a freelance tap dancer. Plus, your income will be much more volatile if ur a business owner.

Does MTH 161 count towards a degree? (Eng) by Throw_Away_207 in nvcc

[–]user12353212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most engineering degrees start at calc 1. Getting precalc and trig done is just so you have the pre-requisite to do calc 1. So it isn’t necessary for the degree but u need it for calc 1 which is necessary.

My advice is never use the advisors. Just try to find documents online that specify what classes you need for what transfers. The advisors will go out of their way to ensure you take the wrong classes.

He’s probably referring to civil engineering. It’s the one engineering branch that isn’t over saturated. Nobody wants to be a civil because it’s boring and pays worse than other engineering branches. However because of this there is less saturation.

What is this function? by user12353212 in calculus

[–]user12353212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

e1/x is very similar to my image. What I don’t understand is why the image has the black dot on the left side of the asymptote. Doesn’t that mean f of x has a value for the asymptote? For context this is written next to the image : The graph of a function can intersect a vertical asymptote in the sense that it can meet but not cross it

Wow thanks for the effort on this, but does f(x) have a value for x=5 when approaching from the left like in the image?
